Paul Lawrence "Larry" Wegkamp

September 20, 1931 — August 15, 2012

Paul L. (Larry) Wegkamp, 80, passed away in Logan, August 15, 2012. He was born September 20, 1931 in Marion, Illinois. Raised in Manti, UT, he was a gifted athlete, playing collegiate baseball, football, basketball, tennis, and track and field. He was named a Junior College All American in two sports. He graduated from the University of Utah, and later received a Master’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts. He enjoyed a varied career in mining engineering, atomic weapons testing, and eventually as a professor of landscape architecture and environmental planning at Utah State University.

He married Mary Joann Braithwaite (deceased) in the Manti Temple, and together they raised three sons, Paul (Debra) of Heathsville, VA; Karl (Karen) of St. George, UT; and Dale (Lisa) of Nibley, UT. In 1992, he married Linda Ann Vida in the Logan Temple, who also preceded him in death. Together they served as special needs missionaries at the LDS Institute of Religion at USU. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who, never one for fanfare, quietly went about doing much good in the world. He is survived by his three sons, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
