Ada Kent

September 14, 1912 — September 10, 2012

Ada Wager Kent was born Sept. 14, 1912, at Beaver Dams, Idaho, to Samuel George and Charlotte Knight Wager. She was the first child in the family and the only child to survive infancy. A brother, Lawrence George, lived only two days, and another brother, Lenard, lived only 20 minutes.
She met Elbern Ray Kent at North Cache High School, and they were married in the Logan LDS Temple on Nov. 20, 1929. Shortly thereafter, Elbern left for a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Southern United States and served there for two years.
After Elbern returned home they purchased a home in Lewiston, where they operated the Kent Coal and Hardware business for many years.
They were the parents of four children, Carma, Lois, Geraldean and Richard Dee. Her husband Elbern Ray passed away Nov. 8, 1967, in Salt Lake City following surgery.
Ada lived in that same home in Lewiston for more than 70 years, until at the age of 97 she moved to the Sunshine Terrace in Logan.
Throughout her lifetime, Ada has been very artistic, and has painted many oil-on-canvas landscapes and other paintings that are cherished by many of her posterity. She also crafted other things, such as a replica of the original gold plates from which Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon scripture. Ada has also been an avid gardener and genealogist.
Ada has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many callings throughout her lifetime. At the age of 69, she served a mission in Tulsa, Okla.
According to her, her two most prized possessions are a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and her family. Today, her family includes 223 descendants: four children, 18 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, 122 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
Ada passed away Sept. 11, 2012 at Sunshine Terrace three days prior to her 100th birthday.
We would like to thank The Sunshine Terrace for the marvelous care they gave our mother and friend.Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Monday, September 17th at the Lewiston 4th Ward Chapel, 16 South Main in Lewiston.
