Ada Madeleine Bailey Murray Conrad

October 25, 1911 — July 25, 2009

Ada Madeleine Bailey Murray Conrad ,age 97, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah.
Ada was the last descendent of one of Utah’s last legal polygamist families as her parents were married before the Manifesto of the 1890’s.
Ada had returned in 2006 to live in the surround of her beloved Cache Valley. She was born October 25, 1911 and was the youngest of 12 children born to William Archibald Murray and Amanda Bailey Murray of Wellsville, Utah. She also had 11 half brothers and sisters.
After she graduated from South Cache High School she worked at the Bluebird Cafe in Logan and later at the Wellsville Morning Milk plant before moving to Salt Lake City to attend business college. An early marriage had ended in divorce and left her with a young daughter to support.
While working in Salt Lake City Ada met and married Richard V. Conrad, and had a son, Richard Conrad, Jr.
Dick Conrad’s early death left her with two children to raise on her own. She decided to invest in the purchase of the Paramont Milk Depot on 4th South, which sold dairy products, hamburgers and shakes. It supported her and her family for many years. Ada’s bookkeeping skills later lead her work in the both the state and federal government, including the IRS, in Utah, California, Texas and Hawaii.
Ada had a great intellect and was a voracious reader who retained every piece of information. She was the family encyclopedia and an invaluable connection to the past. Ada also loved people, meeting new friends, and connecting with old family and acquaintances in Cache Valley, many of who were with her at the time of her passing.
Ada is survived by a daughter, Carol Lee Apiki (Walter) of Ka’a’awa, Hawaii, and a son, Richard V. Conrad of Palm Springs, California; grandchildren, Lauren Apiki Ellsworth, Karen Apiki Kalino, Renee Apiki Awana; great grandchildren, Kara Amanda, Leihoku Johanna, Dane Walter, Katherine Kamalani, Dylan Kekoa and one great-great-grandchild, Arielle Kuuleimakamae.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8th at 11:00am in the Allen- Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 E. Center Street, Logan. Friends may call at the mortuary on Saturday morning from 9:30 - 10:30am. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
