On November 1, 2008, Afton Christensen Poole passed away in Logan, Utah at the young age of 92, and at last, joined her beloved Cliff.
Afton was born June 20, 1916 in Richmond, Utah to Johannah Marie and Orval Joseph Christensen. She had two brothers Keith and Cluff. Many fond memories are shared of the years she lived there. At the age of 15 her family moved to Preston, Idaho. While attending Preston High School, she was a member of Zeta Pi Social Club and Pep Club.
During her senior year, she was Studentbody Vice President. Afton met the love of her life at Preston High, Clifford Poole.
September 8,1937, Afton and Cliff were married in the Salt Lake Temple. After Cliff graduated from Utah State University they live in Moscow, Idaho, so Cliff could certify to teach in Idaho. After Moscow, they move to Paris, Idaho for nine months and then on to Hyrum, Utah in the fall of 1940 and were there for seven years. While in Hyrum, they had two children, Craig and Pamela. The family left Hyrum in 1947 and move to Logan. In 1949, the family moved to River Heights where Afton resided in her home for 59 years.
In Afton's words "My married life has been as a homemaker, mother and grandmother and helping Cliff with his on-the-side occupations. Thus, I was able to spend time serving in church and civic callings." She has been a teacher, counselor and president of the Primary, counselor and president of the Relief Society, visiting teacher supervisor and has served on the Primary and Sunday School stake boards. Afton served in the Logan LDS Temple and has been president
of the River Heights Civic Club and Camp Captain of the River Heights Daughters of the Utah
Pioneers.
Afton is survived by son, R. Craig (Sharon) Poole, daughter, Pamela Martinez, grandson, Christopher Poole, granddaughters, Andraea Poole, Dawn (Casey) Waldrom, Catherine Poole, Monique (Floyd) Ahlstrom, Farrah (Eleasar) Reyes, great-granddaughters, Ryan Poole, Madison Poole and Sophia Reyes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford R. Poole, her parents, brothers and son-in-law, Silviano Martinez.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Thursday, November 6, 2008 in the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 AM prior to the services at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Providence City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
