Afton Hoppie Ashley

August 8, 1923 — May 22, 2008

Richmond, Utah: Afton Hoppie Ashley passed away May
22, 2008 of unusual circumstances. She was born Aug,
8, 1923 to Lewis 0. and Fannie H. Sorenson in Richmond
Utah. She was the youngest of 6 children. She attended
schools in Cache County and graduated from North Cache
High. She married Robert Junior Hoppie in Richmond in
1942 and it was later solemnized in 1958 in the Logan
temple, he passed away in 1980. She met and married
William A Ashley of West Jordan in 1990 and he passed
away in 2003. Most of her life was spent in Richmond.


She worked as a waitress and clerk for many
years. Most of them spent at LD’s Cafe. She loved
people and was well loved in return. She was a great
bowler and brought home many trophies. She had many
church jobs of which Cub Scouts and Beehives being her
favorite. She had just been elected an officer in the
Red Hat society, with her life long friend Maxine
Christensen and was looking forward to the next year.

The high light of her life was the neighborhood
children who gathered in her yard. She always had a
sucker in her pockets for each of them. Family visits
were very gratifying to her.
Surviving are her three children: Nancy (Del) Nielsen
of Hyrum, Marilyn Moss of Eugene Oregon and Louis
(Denice) Hoppie of Richmond, one brother Ford (Betty)
Sorenson of Iona, Idaho, 7 grandchildren, 17
great-grandchildren and 2 stepchildren Jamie L
Phillips of West Jordan and Jeanie Bennett of
Scottsdale, Arizona.
Preceding her in death: Husbands, Robert Junior
Hoppie, William A. Ashley, parents, Lewis O. and
Fannie H. Sorenson, siblings, Dean Sorenson, Dorothy
Matthews, Ron Sorenson, Grant Sorenson and son-in-law,
Travis Moss.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in the Richmond 3rd Ward
Chapel, 135 West Main Street in Richmond. A viewing
will be held on Tuesday evening, May 27, from 6:30
until 8:30 PM at the Richmond 3rd Ward Chapel and
prior to services on Wednesday from 11:00 to 11:45 AM.
Interment will be in the Richmond City Cemetery.
