NORTH LOGAN, UTAH: Agatha Mary Hatch Allen, 94 died peacefully October 23,2011 in North Logan, Utah.
Agatha was born December 18, 1916 to Edwin Pace Hatch and Ethel Catherine Gooch in Swan Lake, Idaho. Her family moved to Cove, Utah where she and her seven brothers and sisters were raised-Terrance (Helen Michalsen), Myron (Faun Nelson), Tarrell (Zona Nelson), Carrell (Don Thorpe), Leona (Kae Miller), Bartley (Ilean Smith), Darlene (Reese Richman).
She married Ivan S. Allen on July 14, 1938 in the Manti temple. They had a dairy and chicken farm in Cove where they both worked hard. They have 6 children: Kaylene (Terry) Griffin, Arlo (Nancy Alley), Andrew, Myrna (Bob Carlson), Wayne (Holley Butterfield), Diane (Veldon Sorensen); 31 grandchildren; and 73 great-grandchildren.
Agatha loved nature and the beauty of the earth. She captured much of it with thousands of photographs and hundreds of oil paintings. She learned to oil paint later in life and was able to give each of her children, and grandchildren a beautifully framed painting. She loved to cook and was the School Lunch Supervisor at Logan High School until her retirement. She was a member of the Ralph Smith Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Agatha was a very compassionate, caring person and served twice as the Relief Society President in Cove, literally wearing out her cars caring for others' needs. She cared for her mother-in-law, mother, and husband until their deaths. She served in all the auxiliaries ofthe LDS Church, as a worker in the Logan Temple, and as a missionary in the Family History Mission in Salt Lake City at the age of 81.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, sons Andrew and Arlo, daughter Myrna, 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, brother Myron and sister Darlene.
Funeral services will be held at the North Logan First Ward: 1150 East 2100 North, at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 28,2011 with a viewing at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before the funeral. A viewing will also be held at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan: 420 East 1800 North, North Logan, Utah on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Richmond City Cemetery.
