ALAN JAY FACKRELL
On September 15, 2012, Alan Fackrell passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born December 12, 1939 in Logan, Utah to Elton D. and Benona Jamison Fackrell. Alan was raised in Lewiston, Utah and graduated from North Cache High School.
In 1959 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served four years as a fire-control technician on the USS Springfield and USS Canberra. In 1960, his ship was part of the Naval blockade during the Cuban missile crisis. The Canberra cruised the mediterranian for a year in 1962. After the Navy, Alan swore he would never leave Cache Valley and he didn't.
Alan owned a business maintaining electronic equipment, requiring him to constantly travel all around Cache Valley, Bear Lake area and Southern Idaho. He was known affectionately as "Grumpy Al", but was generous to a fault. He enjoyed fishing with his friends and loved to cook and raise a nice garden.
Alan is survived by his sister, Sharon Johnson, of Orem, Utah, and a niece and nephew. His family would like to thank wonderful, supportive neighbors and friends in Logan. Also we are grateful for the kindness of nurses at Logan Regional Hospital and especially for the tender care of Dr. Nash and Dr. Ben Jacob.
In accordance with Alan's wishes, there will not be a memorial service, but he will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
