Albert Leo Negus

December 13, 1931 — April 26, 2017

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, Albert Leo Negus died April 26, 2017. He was surrounded by loved ones and passed peacefully in his sleep.

Albert grew up in St. Charles, Idaho in the picturesque mountains surrounding Bear Lake, riding his horse to school each day and ice-skating on the frozen lake. He helped his father as a sheepherder and was at his side at his death while tending sheep. Strong in character and resolve, alone he tied his father to his horse and brought him down the mountain to his family. He was, in his heart, forever a sheepherder and would always talk of his love of the solitude and beautiful mountains of Swan Creek Peak.

He left the small town of St. Charles as a young man to serve his country in the Army during the Korean War. He met his lifelong sweetheart, Connie while in Korea and promised to come back for her after the war. True to his word he did and they were married in the Logan, Utah temple in 1960 and shared 56 wonderful years together.

He was always happiest spending time at home with his family, enjoying (and sharing) the fruits from his massive tomato garden, and taking walks to collect anything and everything. He was known as “the can man” by neighbors and strangers alike and well-loved for his quiet and gentle nature. He was unwaveringly generous, loved westerns, loved to talk politics, and share stories with his family and friends.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me (John 10:27). The Bible describes close relationships between shepherds and their flocks. The sheep recognize the voice of the shepherd. They follow him. The shepherd protects his flock and would give his life for them. This is how Albert loved his family, like a shepherd for his flock, loyal and protective. He was to the end, a kind and virtuous soul. He lived close to nature, uncorrupted by the world.

He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully to live a life of Christ. Albert was the last surviving sibling of the Johnston-Negus family and is survived by his wife, Connie Negus, daughter Mimi Chamberlain (Scott), grandson Cole Albert Chamberlain residing in Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law Malja Kim, niece Prascilla Crook (Raymond) and their children Elliot, Lillian, and Julian Crook residing in North Ogden, UT.

We love you so much and miss you, our dear, sweet Daddy and Uncle Leo.
