Alberta Blanche Turner Jensen died July 12, 2006, in Logan, Utah 2 days before her 90th birthday. Alberta was born July 14, 1916, the first child of Albert Roy and Clara Hyde Turner. She grew up on the family’s Morgan, Utah dairy farm. She was an honor student, senior class president, and a member of the band. She also played the violin. Alberta attended Utah State Agricultural College, majoring in Child Development. By that time it was evident she had a talent for working with young children. She went on to graduate school, working as a head teacher in the Child Development Lab and earning an M.S. degree.
At college she met her sweetheart, Louis Jensen, and they were married June 12, 1941, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. After living in California during World War II while Louis was in the Army, the couple settled in Roosevelt, Utah where they enjoyed community life, dear friends, and church service. In 1953 they moved to Logan as Louis began his work with the Cooperative Extension Service at USU.
Alberta’s first priority was being a mother, wife and homemaker. She is honored by her children who benefited from her commitment to family, her loving and gracious ways, her industry, her love of learning, and her kind nature. She served very actively in the LDS church and enjoyed associations in the Booklore club and several wives’ groups associated with USU. She was a volunteer with adoptions for LDS Social Services, and she and Louis served in the Logan LDS Temple for 15 years.
Alberta and Louis are the parents of four children: Richard (Dorothy Ann) Jensen of Provo, Utah; Margaret (David) Kitterman of Flagstaff, Arizona; Dorothy (Roylan) Croshaw of Logan, Utah; and Barbara (Mark) Hall of Sandy, Utah. The couple has 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband Louis in 2000, parents, younger sister, and a grandson.
Funeral services will be Monday July 17 at 12:00 noon at the LDS Eighteenth Ward Chapel, 502 East 300 North, in Logan. Visitation is Sunday July16, 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan, and Monday July 17, 10:30 to ll:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
