LOGAN -- Alice, age 88, a long-time resident of Cache Valley, died Oct 12, 2013 peacefully at her home in Logan from lung cancer.
She was born May 26, 1925 in Woodruff, Rich, Utah, the fifth child of seven to George Nuttal and Arvella (Dean) Nicholls. Her father, a rancher, died in 1933 when Alice was only eight years old and her mother, Arvella, died in 1944 shortly after Alice graduated from South Rich High School.
In July 1944, Alice and her girlfriend moved to Ogden to work at the Hostess plant where she worked for two months filling those wonderful tasting Hostess Twinkies. In September of 1944, they decided to move to Evanston, WY where they found work as waitresses at the Ranch Café on Front Street.
It was while working at the Ranch Café in 1946, that Alice met Henry Si “Bill” Hickox. He had just returned from combat in the South Pacific and was working across the street from the café at Dean and Richie’s Garage as a mechanic. They got married in Ely, NV on May 10, 1947. They stayed in Evanston for another year while Bill took a job with Morris-Knudson Construction. However, in 1948, the company needed workers in Oregon, so Alice and Bill moved their 3children, Calvin, Ricky and NaDean to the Portland area for two years.
They moved back to Evanston in 1951 for the birth of their fourth child, Nila Jean, but moved to Ogden in 1952 when Bill took work at the Hinckley Motor Co. Alice gave birth to a set of twins, William Dee and Bonnie Lee, in 1954. Alice’s family moved again that June when Bill found work at Logan Motor Co. She has been here in the valley ever since.
Alice lost Bill in March of 1987 after 40 wonderful years of marriage. Eight years later on June 5, 1995, she married Pier Eugene Parish. They enjoyed seven fun-filled years together playing golf and travelling until the ravages of pancreatic cancer took Pier’s life in September 2002.
Alice is survived by Richard Dee (Claudia) Hickox, Rio Rancho, NM, NaDean Hickox, Logan, William Dee (Bonnie Jean) Hickox, Logan and Bonnie Lee Hickox, Logan.. She also left behind 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Alice has also lost a daughter, Nila Jean, a son, Richard Calvin, and three grandchildren, Chad, Jennifer, and Amanda Jean.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in the Logan City Cemetery. A public viewing will be held prior to the services from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. Alice will be buried next to her husband Henry Si Hickox.
