April 6, 2015 a great reunion occurred as our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister entered through the veil to be reunited with her mother, father, brother and sisters, and her first born daughter who died in infancy. Also awaiting her was her Heavenly Father who was anxious to embrace her and bestow upon her all that He had to bless her with.
Alice is the youngest of five children born to Karl G and Beatrice Mae Franks Hanney. She was born on January 15, 1932 in Midway, Wasatch, Utah. The family moved to Milford, Beaver, Utah where grandpa was the superintendent of the Horn Silver mine. Mom told many lively stories of living in Frisco, just outside of Milford. Indian Chiefs, blow snakes, rattlers and porcupines took center stage in her stories. Mom was blessed with a wonderful childhood filled with love and a great work ethic.
Mom moved to Salt Lake, was married, added three daughters to the family, the first of which died four hours after birth. She was later divorced. She worked hard as a single parent to raise us, giving of herself in all she did. Sacrifice was a main part of life for her, never expecting anything in return. She provided for us, cared for us, taught us and loved us, always. She retired from USWest after 30 years of service. She moved to Smithfield, Cache, Utah in 2004 to be closer to family.
She is a member of the L.D.S. Church having served in various callings including Relief Society president, temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple, and perhaps her favorite calling that of visiting teacher which she did with diligence and love for her sisters. She was blessed with a strong testimony of her Savior and His gospel.
Prior to her health issues that took some of her sight she enjoyed doing embroidery work blessing our lives with many heirlooms. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, a wonderful cook and taught us that it was possible to completely clean and scrub down an entire house, do a weeks worth of laundry and grocery shopping all in one Saturday!
Alice is survived by her two daughters Pamela Mae (Gary) Russell and Charlene Kay (John) Van Duren both of Smithfield, Cache, Utah; brother: F. Kent "Bud" Hanney of Murray, Salt Lake, Utah; Four grand-daughters: Charity LaRae (Riley) Hepworth, Heather Lucille (Chad) Pehrson, Amber Kay (Ivon) Cullumber and Andrea Mae (Brian) Thames and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. We will all miss her greatly but we will keep her "Spunk" alive.
She was predeceased by her daughter Connie Rae Tucker, brother Thomas Karl Hanney, and sisters Barbara Rosetta Hanney and Beverly Darlene Chidester. Sisters-in-law Duveen Hanney and Ludee Hanney, brother-in-law Earl Chidester.
Our family would like to give our most sincere heartfelt thanks to Intermountain Hospice for their professional, kind and genuine concern while caring for our mother. We cannot express how truly blessed we are to have had them go through this journey with us. We could not have done it without all of them. We especially want to thank Claire, mom loved her!
A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening , April 8, 2015 at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main in Smithfield, Utah, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at 12 o’clock noon on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services at Memorial Estates from 11:00 to 11:45 AM. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
