Alice Mae Smith, 79, passed away peacefully September 19th at Sunshine Terrace, after spending the day with her loving and dedicated husband, Melvin B. Smith.
Mae was born in La Jara, Colorado to George E. Ford and Alice V. Coombs Ford on April 17, 1930. She was the second oldest of nine children.
Mae lived in Colorado until the age of 12, when the family moved to Smithfield, Utah. She met Mel at Winget’s Ice Cream in Smithfield. Shortly afterward, they fell in love, and she became his “Maisey.” They were married on Oct 17, 1947, and were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They spent 64 years together.
She worked for Dr. Barlow, at Safeway, American Foods, Grand Central, and Pepperidge Farms. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She raised three sons, the late Robert L. (Marian), Dennis K. (Beth), and Melvin “Kim”(Paula). She then used her skills and love to provide childcare services to her grandchildren (Travis, Holly, Levi, Denver, and Michael).
She loved working in her flower garden, raising beautiful roses, crocheting, collecting tea cups and plates, completing puzzles, and driving her Lincoln really fast when she knew she would not be caught.
Surviving her is her husband Mel, her sister Bonnie Anderson, her brother Jack Ford, her two sons, twelve grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Gratitude is extended to the staff of Sunshine Terrace and to Dr. Stones for the outstanding care and service Mae received over the last five years.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 24, 2009 in the Logan City Cemetery. Friends and family may call prior to services at the Allen-Hall Mortuary from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. Condolences may be sent to the family at
