Alma Blake Winward
LEWISTON—Alma Blake Winward, 55, passed away peacefully after a sudden heart attack, November 26, 2012.
Born September 10, 1957, in Preston, ID, to Alma and Bonnie Winward. He married Kimberly Doney, September 20, 1979 in the Logan, LDS Temple. They were later divorced. He married Kim Robison, May 5, 2001, in Wellsville, UT and they were later sealed in the Logan, LDS Temple.
He graduated from Corvallis High School, Corvallis, Oregon, 1976. During his high school years Blake enjoyed playing rhythm guitar in his band “Ukiah.” He developed a love for music he enjoyed during his whole life.
At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Lewiston 4th ward. He served as an extremely effective missionary in the Pennsylvania, Harrisburg Mission from 1977–79, where he had many fond memories. Many of his wonderful qualities were derived from his missionary service. Other church service included Elders Quorum President, Bishopric Executive Secretary, Scout Master, Single Adult Advisor, Sunday School Teacher and most recently in his most favorite calling as a rock-star primary teacher.
Blake loved automobiles and worked as a detailer, mechanic, auto-repair shop owner and dealership owner. His clientele loved him as much for his sense of humor and quick wit as for his incredible automotive repair skills. There were many who stopped in to see him, not because their car was broken, but because they needed to hear a good joke.
His most recent employ was as an automotive instructor at Bridgerland Applied Technology College where he thrived on imparting a lifetime of automotive experience with his students who loved him dearly.
Gardening was one of Blake’s greatest passions, second only to being a wonderful husband and father. Blake was often accused of needing a 12-step program to get him off his lawn mower and out of the yard.
His legacy is his six wonderful children who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife, Kim Robison Winward, Logan, Utah; daughters, Jamie Winward (Josh), Hyde Park, Utah, Ana and Abby, Logan, Utah; sons Braydon (Kimberly), North Ogden, Utah, Matthew and Bryan, Logan, Utah; grandchildren, Brynley, Alexis and Zoie; Grandmother, Vera Pinson, Harrisville, Utah; Parents, Alma and Bonnie Winward, North Ogden, Utah; brothers, Robert, Logan, Utah, Chad (Heather) Pleasant View, Utah, Byron (Ryan) Salt Lake City, Utah; Sisters, Gayle Christensen, North Ogden, Utah, Nicole Burwell (Jim) West Weber, Utah. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandsons, Chesney and Wyatt Winward, River Heights; grandparents, Donald Pinson, Smithfield, Utah, Bert and Elizabeth Winward, Clifton, Idaho.
Blake was a people pleaser. His heart was huge and he never had the capacity to say no. He was always available to repair the widow’s car, move a friend in need and lift our hearts with a joke. He sacrificed his life in tireless service to his wife, his children, his friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, Blake and Kim would want you to take time to perform a selfless service to someone in need in Blake’s honor.
