Alice Aloma Johnson Hammond left her earthly existence on December 7, 2015 at the age of 88. She was born August 10, 1927, in Central, Idaho. She was the second child of Edith Loretta Qualman and Artie Nicholas Johnson. Her father passed away when she was 3 years old and her mother married Lyman Dart Anderson. They moved to Millville, Utah when Aloma was 6 years old, and she lived in Millville until 2002 when she moved to Williamsburg Retirement Inn in Logan, Utah, where she lived until shortly before her death.
Aloma was schooled in Millville Elementary and South Cache High School. Her family had polio when she was a junior in high school and she had to quit school to help support the family. She met and married Ervin Arthur Hammond Jr. in 1946. They were the proud parents of four children: Evette (deceased), Shawna, Kurt and Wendy.
Aloma was a seamstress and homemaker. She sewed draperies in her home and for a local business for 28 years. She held many positions in the LDS church and after Ervin’s retirement, they served two LDS missions; one in the Kentucky Louisville Mission and one for the genealogical society in New Hampshire. They loved their time in the mission field and made many good friends during that time.
Aloma had eight siblings: Joy, Dorine, Sheldon, Val, Leone, Leon, Sidney and Sylvan. Only Sheldon and Val are still living. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ervin, and her daughter, Evette. She is survived by two daughters, Shawna (Doug) and Wendy (Dwight), and one son, Kurt (Alice). She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
A special thank you is sent to Dr. Nash and the staff at Sunshine Terrace and Sunshine Hospice for the wonderful care she received and the love she was shown.
