Alverda Marchant

Al Verda Marchant returned to her Heavenly Father and her eternal sweetheart on November 16, 2012.

Verda was born October 29, 1934 in Salt Lake County, the daughter of Alvin Victor and Grace Tew Nielsen. After graduating from South Summit High School she worked as a dental assistant until she went to Salt Lake City to work at Utah Home Fire Insurance.

She married her eternal sweetheart, Alan Dale Marchant, on May 5, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died on November 6, 1993.

Verda held many positions in the LDS Church from den mother to Young Women’s President. She was chorister or organist of every organization and also served as a Jr. Sunday School coordinator. She was a teacher’s aide for 19 years helping young children. Verda was very dedicated to her family and her favorite times were when she was surrounded by them. She built close relationships with those around her, including the caring and loving staff at Cache Valley Assisted Living in Providence, Utah where she has been a resident for the past 7 years.

Verda is survived by her children Alan (Kathy) Columbia, MD; Steven (Lisa) Las Vegas, NV; Lloyd (Sue), Peoa, UT; Kelly (Becky), Nibley, UT; Holly (Nelson) Henk, Cibolo, TX; daughter-in-law Suzanne (Brent), West Warren, UT. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren that with her children were the light of her life. She is also survived by her sisters Merilyn Maxwell and Barbara Prescott. She was preceded in death by her husband and son Michael.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at at the Peoa Ward Chapel, 1220 West at Highway 189 at 11:00 with a viewing from 9:30-10:30. A viewing will also be held from 6:30-8:30 on Tuesday, November 20 in the same location. Interment will be in the Peoa, Utah Cemetery following the funeral services. In lieu of flowers mom requested that contributions be made to the Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
