Alyce (Pitcher) Bosch, a resident of Smithfield, Utah, passed away in the home of her sister in Hyde Park, Utah on August 8, 2024 from an aggressive blood infection. All of her family had the opportunity to spend time with her before her passing.

Alyce was born on July 14, 1953 to Orvid and Marva (Godfrey) Pitcher. She spent most of her growing-up years in Smithfield where she graduated from Sky View High School. Shortly after high school, she enrolled in a nursing program through Utah State University and Weber State University. Because of her excitement about the program, her mother, Marva, decided to enroll in the same program. Both graduated with their Registered Nurse degrees.

She started her work at Logan Regional Hospital on the medical unit. She transferred to the McKay Dee hospital and worked in the psych unit. Later, she worked for Sky View high school teaching the CNA program, and started working at Sunshine Terrace as an RN. Alyce furthered her education by getting her Nursing Home Administrator License, and became an administrator at the Sunshine Terrace Foundation. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Terrace Grove assisted living center, and became the director of it. She worked at Sunshine Terrace for many years prior to retirement. She always spoke highly of her many friends there.

Armed with a nursing degree, Alyce was called as a welfare service missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Seoul, Korea mission. As she was working with the local orphanages, she found two of her siblings (Kory and Kendi). She promptly arranged for her parents to adopt them. They have been a welcome addition to the family and without them, the family would not have been complete.

On October 12, 1978, Alyce married Paul Vaun Bosch in the Manti, Utah temple. Soon three children, Alexis, Zachary, and Tanner would be added to their family. Paul passed away in 2008.

Alyce was very artistic, and would spend many hours working on cross stitch, painting, and craft projects. Each year her family and friends could expect a Christmas gift that had taken Alyce hours to complete.

Most recently, Alyce has been intensely involved in humanitarian work. She has established what she termed “co-ops” in a variety of places in Africa (mostly Uganda) and Haiti. She has been able to find professionals in agriculture, medicine, and other critical areas to volunteer to help with the projects. As a result, she has developed numerous friendships and has gained a great love for the people in those countries. Her hope has always been to help people become self-sufficient, and she has worked tirelessly to accomplish this goal. The accomplishments of these remarkable co-ops will continue to be a major part of her legacy. Of her it can truly be said: “She changed the world.”

Those remaining to mourn her loss are: her father, Orvid Pitcher; brothers: Mike Pitcher (Idaho Falls, ID) and Kory (Jennifer) Pitcher. Sisters include: Christy (Jim) Benedict (Hyde Park, Utah), Alayna (Owen) Weston (Nibley, Utah) and Kendi (Jeff Lang) Pitcher (Chicago, Illinois) and Clara Galeano who has lived with the family for many years and is considered a sister. Children include: Alexis (Devan) Spence (Smithfield, Utah), Zachary (Katie) Bosch (Virginia), and Tanner (Lara) Bosch (Smithfield, Utah). Her grandchildren include: Xavier and Edison Miller; Sydney, Emma, Riley, and Ellie Bosch. Additionally, an aunt, Linda (Godfrey) Walker, many cousins, and many nieces, nephews and friends from all over the United States, Haiti, and in many African nations. They will always be grateful to have known of her goodness.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Vaun Bosch; her mother, Marva Pitcher; a sister, Sherida Pitcher; her parents-in-law, a number of siblings-in-law, her grandparents and a number of aunts and uncles.

The family expresses appreciation to the medical workers and kind staff personnel at Maple Springs Rehab Center, the Logan Regional Hospital and to the Intermountain Health hospice workers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the Charity Anywhere Foundation. Donations should include “Alyce Bosch” in the comment to ensure the donation goes toward her co-op projects.
