Andrea Watts Saxton

January 19, 1976 — March 11, 2015

Andrea Watts Saxton, 39, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on January 19, 1976 in Logan, Andi was the second daughter of David and Marilyn Watts. She attended Logan City schools and graduated from Logan High and Utah State University. Her degree in biology and chemistry served her well throughout her life as she raised her children, cooked, gardened, and designed flowers. She was always an Aggie, True and Blue.  Her influence was evident whenever there was an especially beautiful Founders Day dinner or Alumni event. If there was innovative design at an event or gorgeous flowers at a party, wedding or funeral, you knew Andi was involved.
Following the tradition of the Watts family work ethic, she went into business at the age of twelve with her cousin and girlfriend as teachers at their own summer preschool. As a young girl, she and her sisters washed windows and cleaned new construction projects for her dad at Raymond Construction. In college she worked at The Sportsman, USU Information Services, and a summer job at a restaurant in St. George. During her early married years she founded Spoonlight Catering, a catering and party planning business and Forget-Me-Not Floral Design. She joined forces with her friend, Nora Hansen Peterson, creating Blush, a flower and gift shop where she spent the next few years organizing beautiful events and weddings. Her latest venture was opening her own elegant little floral design studio, Sego, in downtown Logan.
Andi met her husband, Cort Saxton, while working at The Sportsman. Cort used to frequent her workplace and pretend to shop only to see if Andi was working. Their "cort-ship" was filled with bike rides and dinners, outdoor activities and friendship. Falling in love was sweet and soon Cort convinced Andi that she was his girl. They married in the Logan Temple on December 18, 1997, and Andi became a second mother to Cort's beautiful daughter Ellee, whom she loved and cared for tenderly over eighteen years. Cort and Andi were blessed with their darling daughter Kate in 2003, and their family was completed with Shea Pup the Dachshund three years ago.
Andi adored her family and took great care in making the world more beautiful for them.  She also loved her neighbors and dear friends in Smithfield, who have cared for her and her family during the times she was ill. Her family, friends and business associates knew Andi to be loyal and kind, charitable to those in need, and her generosity knew no bounds.
Andi's battle with metastatic melanoma began in January 2013. The great team of dedicated researchers, physicians and nurses at facilities here in Logan and at the Huntsman Institute in Salt Lake City, have our gratitude and appreciation for the compassionate care she was given. With courage she “fought the good fight, she has finished the course, she has kept the faith”.
Andi is survived by her husband, Cort R. Saxton, daughters Ellee and Kate Saxton, of Smithfield; her parents David and Marilyn Watts, of Logan; her sisters, Amy Christensen of Salt Lake, Leslie (Nolan) Wood of Mendon, Natalie (Paul) Christensen of Saratoga Springs, and brother, Michael D. (Jessica) Watts of Draper. Her grandmother Carma Watts of Providence and grandfather Rulon Boyd Maughan of South Ogden. Her grandfather Loy W. Watts and her grandmother Mary L. Maughan preceded her in death. Her many nieces & nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins mourn her loss. Cort's family includes his parents, Robert and Annette Saxton of Smithfield; his sisters Tiffany (David) Miller, Michelle (Richard) Blunck, Heather (Josh) Maughan, and Kim (Andy) Checketts.
Funeral services for Andi will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Logan YSA 1st Stake Center, 1385 East 1100 North in Logan. A viewing will be held on Friday evening at the same location from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and on Saturday morning from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Services will be held under the direction of Bishop Scott Gibbons of the Smithfield 13th Ward. Interment will be at the Smithfield Cemetery, 200 East Center Street in Smithfield.
Thank you to Andi’s beloved sisters, and cousin, Jami Dickerson, for providing tender care this past week and posting updates on Andi’s story online at caringbridge.org/visit/andisaxton/journal; we appreciate all the many tributes and notes of encouragements we have received. We also express sincere appreciation for the love and support from EK USA.  We also thank Dr. Grossman and his team at the Huntsman Cancer Institute who has made fighting cancer his life's work, and encourage those who wish to do so, to contribute to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Condolences may also be sent to www.allenmortuaries.net
