Ann Cook Cheney, 82, passed from this life to a joyous heavenly reunion on June 4, 2024. She was born on June 16, 1941, to Harvey Cook and Quo Vadis Toolson at their home in Osgood, ID. She was the second of their three children, having an older brother and a younger sister.

Growing up, her family moved often from farm to farm in Idaho. They lived in Osgood, Shelley, and Jameston. She helped with the planting and harvesting of crops and once had to milk the cows, morning and night, while her daddy was away. This made her nervous, so she tried to trick the cows by wearing her daddy’s coat. It must have worked because we never heard any wild stories about it not working. She liked to steal eggs from her mom’s chickens to use in her playhouse. She told her mother and Aunt Mildred once that she wanted to sing in the Tabernacle Choir someday and they just laughed. She loved playing softball, as a youth and as an adult, earning a broken nose when she was playing catcher for the Hyde Park Second Ward. She hated school, mostly because she struggled with reading, but she finally had a teacher that helped her learn and she loved to read ever since.

She graduated from Idaho Falls high school in 1959 and then attended Ricks college for 1 year where she met and fell in love with her eternal sweetheart, David Marion Cheney. They were married on August 12, 1960, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. They have been each other’s best friend since then. One of the last things she said to dad was, “you’re still the handsome man that I met.” To which he responded, “you’re still the beautiful girl that I married.”

Mom and Dad lived in Logan, UT, River Heights, UT, Huntsville, AL, and settled in Hyde Park, UT in 1970. They were blessed along the way with 4 children, Mark, Sherrie, Dale and Marcia. Her family was her greatest joy, and she was fiercely protective of them. She and Dad made sure they attended every performance of any of the myriad of things we were involved in growing up, which were a lot!

The two of them loved to camp in Yellowstone National Park and would usually go a few times a year. They even honeymooned there. They loved to watch the animals and mom would document the animals they saw and how many, every trip they took. As us kids came, the Yellowstone trips continued and we all have fond memories of hiking, fishing, singing, playing games and reading stories together.

For several years mom and dad liked to rockhound together, searching for different kinds of rocks and crystals. They liked to cut them open and see the beautiful geodes that were inside.

They served an LDS mission from 2001-2002, microfilming records found in Iowa courthouses. They were also able to help with the Nauvoo Temple open house while they were there. Ann did not want to serve and let everyone know it. When she was set apart to start her mission, she was promised that they would find records that no others could find. She saw those miracles happen and loved her mission!

Mom was always concerned about others, even in her last few days. She and dad have blessed many lives, often anonymously and always with love.

Mom and dad have had many difficult trials throughout their lives. Two of the most difficult were losing children from this earth life. Mark and Marcia were no doubt here to welcome mom transfer from this life to the next. She was so excited for that reunion!

Mom is survived by her sweetheart, David Marion; her children Sherrie (Jared) LeCheminant and Dale Cheney; 12 grandchildren, 18 great children (with more on the way) and her brother Jay (Jane) Cook. She also is survived by some bonus grandchildren, several brother and sister in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her sister, Joyce Dutson, her children Mark David (Lynnette & Randy Haltiner) Cheney, and Marcia Cheney and a granddaughter, Sarah Jensen.

Viewings will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan, 420 E 1800 N Logan, UT,  from 5-7 pm and on Saturday June 8, 2024 from 9:30-10:30 am at the Hyde Park Aspen Hills Ward, 65 E Center, Hyde Park, UT. The funeral will follow, starting at 11 am.

Til we meet again.
