Anna Jean Bullock Skidmore, 94, returned to her heavenly home on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018. She was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Provo, Utah. She was the youngest of 3 children born to James Alonzo and Norma Poulton Bullock. Her two brother James Robert Bullock and Richard Waldo Bullock preceded her in death.
Anna Jean lived in Preston, Idaho, then Montrose, Colorado, where she graduated from high school in 1942. She was then off to BYU for four years. The war was on so she says “men were rather scarce.” With a B.A. in music she decided to go to the U of U for a more practical side of life, typing and shorthand, so she could get a job. While in Salt Lake, she met Charles Jay Skidmore, her eternal companion. Jay was accepted at Columbia University Teachers College in New York City, NY, where he earned his EdD degree. Norma Jean was born in New York City. From there they moved to Logan, Utah, and Utah State University. Chad, Sally, Jill and Jon were each born in Logan and thus, Logan, Utah, is home.
Anna Jean was a music teacher all of her life, giving piano and vocal lessons to hundreds of youth. Her church experiences have revolved around music, as well. She was Director of the 20th Ward Relief Singing Mothers for 27 years. She served on the General Board of the Relief Society under the leadership of Sister Belle Spafford. Her committee assignments were Music Committee and Visiting Teaching Committee. Upon her release from the General Board she was made 20th Ward Relief Society President. Jay and Anna Jean were Temple Ordinance Workers and served in the Baptistry. They were then called to the New Zealand Auckland Mission, where they served in the Visitor Center. Anna Jean’s continued contribution to the quality music in Cache Valley, was also her membership to the Northern Utah Choral Society. For the past 5 1/2 years Anna Jean in the Fairfield Branch, in Layton, Utah, she was the Music Director for Family Home Evening. Anna Jean also shares her love of association and service with “A.C. Woman’s Club", Festival of the American West and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers
There was no limit to Anna Jean’s energy, positive attitude and desire to service. It is because Anna Jean freely shared her testimony, talents, gifts of leadership, love and friendship with all she met (served), be it family, the neighbor across the street, or the passer by, in need of a smile. This “musical circle of life”, service and love of the Lord, continues within each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and YOU!
