Arch Rock

January 20, 1919 — December 17, 2008

LOGAN, UTAH: Our loving father, Arch Rock, 89 passed away on December 17th following a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was born January 20,1919 to Frank and Elenore Bankhead Rock in Avon, Utah. He was the sixth of eight children. He spent his early years in Paradise helping on the family farm and traveling with his father's sheep camp. He was educated in Avon and Paradise, and graduated from South Cache High School.
Arch was engaged to Marjorie Anderson of Nibley for four years, due to his extended service during WWII where he was a member of the Army Signal Corp stationed overseas in Australia and New Guinea. Upon his return, he and Marge were married on October 16, 1944 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. They had five children. His years of employment were spent in the automotive business, primarily in sales. He retired from Axtell Chevrolet in 1982. Arch and Marge spent several winter seasons in Arizona and enjoyed traveling and camping with their family and friends. Arch was a high priest in the present Hillcrest 1st Ward. He held several positions and was a faithful home teacher. He and Marge served a one year part­time service mission at L.D.S. Employment Services in Logan.
He is survived by his wife of Logan and their four children: Sharon (Ed) Black of North Logan, Bob (Merri) Rock of S.L.C., JoAnn (Dave) Poulsen of Nibley and Jim (Lisa) Rock of Nibley, also one sister Ann Beck of Logan, eight grandchildren and five great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, December 22nd at the Hillcrest 1st Ward chapel located at 875 North 1500 East. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Sunday, Dec. 21st at Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan or 10:30-11:30 A.M. at the church prior to funeral services. Burial will be in the Paradise Cemetery with full military honors by the American Legion. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff of Sunshine Terrace.
