With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Arla Winkel Gibbons, 53, who peacefully left us for her heavenly home on October 4, 2024, after fighting a courageous battle with Stage IV Ovarian Cancer. Arla leaves behind a legacy of love, having joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Paul, after parting with him this past July.
Arla was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, and a loyal friend. She approached life with an authenticity that made everyone around her feel seen and valued, creating a warm and welcoming space for all. Above all, Arla’s greatest happiness came from being with her husband and her six children, who were her pride and joy.
Arla was born on August 6, 1971, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Cleve and Vera Winkel. Reared by her faithful parents and surrounded by eight loving siblings, Arla learned the values that shaped her into a young woman of exceptional integrity, charity, and grace. During her years spent at Madison High School, she thrived in choir and participated in many extra-curricular activities.
Determined to pursue her passions, Arla attended Ricks College (now BYU Idaho), eventually transferring to Utah State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. There, she met Paul Gibbons, and the two married on April 21, 1995. Their marriage flourished into a life filled with joy as they welcomed each of their children into the world.
An avid gardener, Arla had a deep and innate appreciation for the outdoors. She found solace in the sun and poured her heart into landscaping, creating vibrant spaces that mirrored her beautiful, nurturing spirit. Her North Logan home, which she designed herself, stands as a testament to her creativity and passion for bringing beauty into every aspect of life.
Music and the arts were a significant part of Arla’s life. She was an accomplished pianist, a talented singer, and a skilled artist. Throughout her life, she participated in various choirs, such as New Horizons Choir in college, and the American Festival Chorus in later years. Arla was always willing to share her gifts with those around her and touched the hearts of many.
In reflecting on her own life during her final days, Arla wrote: “I leave this life, knowing it was good and full of joy. The words of a primary song come to mind: ‘Families can be together forever’. I know in my heart that if we are obedient, and we try our very best in this life, we will be together forever.”
Arla is survived by her six children: Caleb (Whitnee), Jacob (Aubre), Sydney (Brevin), Adam, Samantha, and Sariah, and three grandchildren, Finn, Lincoln, and Hadlee.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 12th, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Elk Ridge Ward Chapel (1650 E 2600 N, North Logan). A funeral service for Arla will be held at 3:30 PM on the same day at the same location. The interment will take place at the North Logan Memorial Park directly after the services. Funeral services will be broadcast live at www.allenmortuaries.com.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals who cared for Arla during her cancer journey.
