CLARKSTON, UTAH: Arta Dahle Valentine, 88, passed away, with her brother by her side, April 24, 2010 at Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert Idaho, due to complications following a stroke. She was born to Newell C. and Olive Bethea Sparks Dahle on October 29, 1921 in Clarkston Utah. While growing up, she worked on the family turkey farm. Arta graduated from North Cache High School and Stevens Henager Business College.
On March 1, 1943 she married Dean Willard Valentine. They purchased and lived on the Valentine family farm in Acequia, Idaho. After retiring from farming, they settled in Rupert Idaho. They spent 66 years together farming, fishing, hunting, flying and wintering in Yuma, Arizona. Arta even had her pilot’s license. Dean passed away September 21, 2009.
Arta worked at JR Simplot’s for many years. She could always be found working side by side with Dean on the farm. She was very gifted in crocheting, cooking, canning, flower and vegetable gardening, which she continued doing to the time of her death. She was the recipient of many ribbons at the Minidoka County Fair and volunteered helping in the antique building. Arta loved driving and recently returned from visiting family friends in Yuma Arizona and Lemhi Utah.
Though she had no children of her own, Arta had a love and patience for a child that was never ending. Nieces and nephews were always welcome to spend a night, or the entire summer. She supported them endlessly.
Arta was an active member of the Rupert 4th Ward and had planned on going to the Twin Falls Idaho LDS Temple Saturday May 1.
Arta is survived by her brother Arlen (Gwen) Dahle, several nieces and nephews; Dean, Kathy, Justin and Jessica Bennett caretakers of the farm; and special friend and neighbor, seven 7-year old Ebilyn Rios who kept her young. She was preceded in death by her brothers Keith, Kenneth, VaNon and Wayne; nephew Keith Arlen Dahle and husband Dean.
A viewing will be held Thursday April 29 at the Clarkston LDS Church in Clarkston, Utah from 11:00 a.m.-11:45 am Graveside services will then be held, at her request, at the Clarkston City Cemetery at 12:00 pm .
