A. Shane Armstrong, died on Monday evening, November 10, 2008 at home after a valiant battle with cancer surrounded by all his loving girls.
He was born on May 13, 1954 in American Falls, Idaho the son of Ladorna Elizabeth Farr and Joseph Neal Armstrong. He married Judy Gaskill on August 14, 1974. It was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on August 23, 1975.
He was raised on the family dairy farm in Paul, Idaho and graduated from Minoco High School in Rupert, Idaho. While working on the dairy farm, he worked for Triple C Concrete. After his marriage, he worked for Kloepfer’s Ready Mix in Paul. He moved to Logan with his small family in 1976 where he worked for Cache Concrete Company until 1980, when he began working for LeGrand Johnson Construction Company. He started as a truck driver, then moved to the Ready Mix Plant as the dispatcher. For the past 3 years, he has been a salesman. The Construction family has loved working with him and always looked forward to a visit.
He was first diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2003 and after a strong fight, it went into remission. He loved his wife and took care of her until the very end as she battled her own health problems. He never complained even as he became ill again.
He loved music, painting, golfing, and reading. He especially loved being with his grandchildren and those who called him grandpa. He was an amazing man with an infectious smile, was a friend to all, and touched many lives.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings including, Elders Quorum President, Ex. Secretary, 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric, Stake Young Men’s President, and served on the Stake High Council which he loved. He was especially honored to serve as the co-ordinator over the Young Women’s Choir for the General Young Women’s Conference (2001).
He is survived by his bride, Judy; five daughters, Angela (Eric) Justesen, North Logan; Melinda (Scott) Roberts, Ogden; Megan (Trent) Rowley; Kimberly Armstrong; both of North Logan, and Heather (Asa) Duncan, Logan; eleven grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Lucian (Linda) Armstrong, American Falls, Idaho; Teena Loveland, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Mary (Bill) Berry, Rigby, Idaho; Stephen (Claudia) Armstrong, Heyburn, Idaho; Mark (Teena) Armstrong, Pocatello, Idaho; Katie (Bob) Jones, Lehi, Utah; sisters-in-law, Karen (Gary) Nielsen, Mountain Green, Utah and Sue (Randy) Jenkins, Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, and one brother, Elwin.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Ali Ben-Jacob and staff, Dr. Douglas Hyldahl, and Alpine Home Health Care and Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Logan 43rd Ward Chapel, 1255 North 600 East. A viewing will be held at the Allen Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. and at the Church on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the North Logan Memorial Park and Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to an account at Wells Fargo Bank, 1335 North Main St., Logan, UT 84341 or any Wells Fargo branch in the name of Shane Armstrong. The proceeds will be donated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute when the entire family participates in one of the multiple races that are held in conjunction with the Salt Lake City marathon in April 2009.
