Holding Hands in Heaven
Our Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Avis Eleen Goodsell McBride, left this world October 29, 2008 to join her life long sweetheart and companion Leo. As they walked hand in hand through this life, we are sure they are now embracing and holding hands in Heaven.
Avis was born July 31, 1923 in Newton, Utah, the daughter of Alfred and Edna Goodsell. She married Samuel Leo McBride on September 5, 1941 and they were sealed shortly after in the Logan LDS temple. They shared 63 years as sweethearts and raised three children, one son and two daughters.
They lived a perfect example of love for all of us to follow. Their lives were dedicated to each other and their family. They even shared their church callings as Stake Missionaries and also served for many years as stake and ward Dance Directors. They loved the temple ad spent countless hours serving there together. They loved dancing and had their own square dance club and also belonged to two other ones.
They spent many treasured times up Blacksmith Fork canyon camping and fishing. Mother loved to sing and play the guitar, organ, and piano. She spent many hours with her brothers and sisters playing guitars and singing together. Mother also enjoyed bowling, collecting clocks and rocks, and working in her rock and flower gardens. She crocheted many beautiful doilies and pillowcases.
Mother's life was dedicated to her family and spending time together. Her greatest concern in life was for their welfare and happiness. Everyone was always welcome in our home and felt like family. We had friends who spent most of their time there and some even came and lived with us. Mom taught us children the important things in life - - that it's not the things we acquire that brings us lasting joy and happiness but the love of family and what we can do for others.
Mother dealt with sickness most of her life but she never let it get the best of her. She spent her last few years living with her children and loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter, Autumn.
Our parents left us with a legacy of love and precious memories that we will treasure forever tit we meet again.
She is survived by her three children, Todd McBride, Karren (Jay) Bodrero and Patty (David) Hochstettler, 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and sisters, Viola Johnson, Fern Greene, and Gwen Dahle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 3, at the Hyrum First Ward building, 675 W. 95 N. Friends and family may call from 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan and at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m on Monday. Burial will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery.
