PAUL, IDAHO - Bara Petersen, age 90, of Paul, Id., passed away in Salt Lake City, Ut., on July 7th after a short illness.She was born in Richmond, Ut. on October 7, 1921 to J. Ray and Irene Nelson Stoddard.
After graduating from North Cache Hi h School in Richmond and attending Utah State University, she worked a short time in Salt Lake City as a nanny.She married Jay Petersen of Hyrum, Ut. on June 7, 1941. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple.
They lived in Hyrum, Ut. and later moved to Quincy, Wa. in 1954, where they farmed and continued to raise their family. After Jay’s death in 1984, she moved to live next to her sister, Cheryl, in Paul, Id., where she remained until her passing.
Bara loved to read and debate politics. She loved to dance and tend to her yard and flowers. Most of all she loved to be with her family. She and Cheryl lovingly cared for their mother, Irene, for many years until her passing in 1985. Staying active and independent was very important to her. She considered herself lucky to live in and care for her own home . While living in Arizona in the winter, she even started playing tennis at age 61, winning several tournaments. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.
She will be greatly missed by her 4 children, Brent (Gayla), Randy (Jeanne) of Quincy, Wa., Kristine, and Suzanne Adkins (Dave) of Salt Lake City, Ut, 10 grand-children, and 161/2great- grandchildren, and her sister, Cheryl Corless of Paul, Id. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jay, her parents and sister, Florence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, Julhy 14th at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A visitation will be held from 10:00-10:30 AM. prior to services at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at
