Barbara Jean Gail Gruver passed away on October 10, 2013 at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah.
She was born May 14, 1922, in Monrovia, California, the only child of Sherman and Helen
Harding Gail. She married Robert E. Gruver in 1947 and they were later sealed in the Logan Temple.
He died in 1961. They had two children, Joel Sherman and Janet Elizabeth.
She grew up in Covina, California, and earned a BA degree from Occidental College in Los
Angeles. While there she was a 4-year member of the famed Occidental Women's Glee Club. She
worked at Rockwell International during the exciting Apollo space program. After moving to Logan in 1972, she was academic service adviser in the College of Natural Resources at Utah State
University for 12 years where she made many cherished friendships with the staff and students. She was then executive secretary in Admissions until her retirement in 1987 ..
A talented musician, she delighted many with her gift of song and music. She was a member of
the Southern California Mormon Choir and participated in concerts throughout California and the
West. In Logan she sang with the Towne Singers, Bel Canto chorus and various choirs. She also
conducted music in California and Logan.
A faithful member of the LDS church, Barbara served as a personal secretary to five Logan
Central Stake Presidencies for 35 years and prepared hundreds of letters of congratulation, thanks and sympathy for their signatures. She served four church service missions at the Logan Family Search Library in the Logan Tabernacle as well as other callings which were done mostly behind the scenes.
She inherited a love of gardening from her Grandma Gail and spent many happy hours caring for her home and yard.
She was a charter cast member of the pageant in the Festival of the American West and
participated in all of the 25 yearly performances in the Smith Spectrum at USU. She enjoyed traveling and visited 52 countries on six continents. A serious hearing injury in 1997 prevented her from any further musical activity or travel, both of which she loved.
An only grandchild, she was the last leaf on the Gail family tree. She was preceded in death by
her parents, her husband, Robert, and her daughter, Janet Elizabeth. She is survived by her son, Joel S. Gruver of Timonium, Maryland.
