Barbara Stephens

March 7, 1928 — January 15, 2014

Providence, UT – Barbara Linford Stephens, a wonderful wife, our best friend and mother, grandmother, strongest supporter and friend returned to her heavenly home Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the age of 85, in Logan peacefully surrounded by her loving family of causes incident to old age. Mom began her mortal journey here on earth on March 7, 1928 as the fourth child and beloved daughter of Lavina Keetch and Frank Burton Linford born in St. Charles, Idaho. Our mom grew up in St. Charles, Idaho attending elementary school, and graduated from Fielding High in Paris, Idaho.

Barbara married Roger LeRoy Stephens on May 19, 1948 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. This special union of 65 years brought forth seven choice spirits – RaDene (Brent) Meikle; Kayleen (Bruce) Campbell; Gary (Louise) Stephens; Edward (Loril) Stephens; David (Lisa) Stephens; Mary Ann Packer; and Richard (Victoria) Stephens. Barbara and Roger have enjoyed an amazing posterity of 44 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 4 more in route. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Rex, Harold, Russell, Maurice Keith and a sister Althea; two grandsons Kevin Campbell and Samuel Stephens, and great grandchildren Payden Roger Stephens and Ethan James Campbell.

She was a talented homemaker and had tons of energy that she focused on cooking wonderful meals- after school treats and bread/homemade raspberry jam, sewing quilts; as well as making an assortment of afghans for all of her children and grandchildren to enjoy. She loved the opportunity she had to raise a family, growing a bounteous garden so she could preserve the produce for her family’s use during the year. Mom loved compiling the histories of their ancestors and performing the temple work associated with this work. She loved the many opportunities of traveling with her family and the road trips her and dad often took each year together with friends generally in tow. Some of her favorite trips were to Hawaii, Boston, Washington DC, houseboat trip on Lake Powell, Disneyland, the national parks on camping trips, and the LDS Pageant in Palmyra New York.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities over her lifetime. Mother loved best her callings in teaching Primary and Relief Society. Mom was known as one of the most compassionate individuals. She exemplified Christ like qualities by serving others and setting a great example for her children to aspire to by her devotion and obedience to the gospel principles. She faithfully served in the Logan Temple with her sweetheart and companion for 15 years. Her faith and testimony in the gospel grew stronger with each passing year of her life.
