Bernadene May Bird Peterson

April 14, 1921 — December 28, 2014

Bernadene Peterson, age 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep Dec. 28, 2014 in Logan, Utah.
Bernadene was born April 14, 1921 in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Charles Wilford and Eliza Mary Litson Bird. She grew up in the little community of Groveland near Blackfoot, with three brothers and four sisters. During her senior year in high school she met a handsome young man from the Firth area, John Heber Peterson. They were married Dec. 20, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple.
They began their married life on 40 acres of the family farm. They worked hard and prospered moving to better and better farms in the Wapello, Jameston and Goshen communities in Bingham County. In 1961 they began developing new land for irrigation in the Heglar area of the Raft River Valley. During this time their family grew to include eight children, four boys and four girls.
In 1965 they built a beautiful new home near the Snake River in the Springdale area East of Burley. Bernadene thought she was finally settled for the rest of her life. Unfortunately it was not to be. John was diagnosed with colon cancer and passed away Nov. 25, 1968 at the age of 51. With six children still at home, it was not surprising that she looked for a companion. She found one in Albert Fillmore who had also recently lost his wife to cancer. They were married on March 6, 1970 and helped each other finish raising their families.
Bernadene was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved teaching and also served in many leadership positions in the Church throughout her life. She and Albert served a mission in the England Coventry Mission. Bernadene also served as a trainer at the Senior MTC in Provo, Utah.
Her hobbies were gardening, sewing and genealogy. She dearly loved working in her yard and growing flowers. Her love of sewing eventually led to owning The Sticherie Shop in Burley. She also enjoyed a generous portion of the Spirit of Elijah that led to a wonderful collection of Family History work.
After their families were raised Bernadene and Albert moved to Provo near the BYU campus and enjoyed season tickets at the athletic events. In her later years Bernadene moved to Logan to be near four of her children.
Bernadene was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents, most of her siblings, and three grandsons, Clark and Jeff Peterson and Kolby Beck. She is survived by one sister, Marla Stott and her eight children: Brent (Vicki) Peterson, Collin (Hallie) Peterson, Redge (Wendy) Peterson, Candace (Brent) Peterson, Michele (Turrell) Beck, Layne (Ilene) Peterson, Trenna (John) Ellison, Marla Peterson and over 100 other descendants.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 2, 2015 in the North Logan 12th Ward Chapel, 2540 North 400 East, North Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Interment will take place in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley, Idaho at 4:00 pm. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen Mortuary of North Logan. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
