Logan, Utah: Bertrude Madsen Evans, 101, passed away on January 6, 2010 of causes incident to age at the Loan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Bertrude was born August 7, 1908 in Manti, Utah to Howard and Elizabeth Madsen, the eldest of four daughters. Howard was a farmer and also taught carpentry and building at what was then Utah Agricultural College. Her mother was a homemaker and in the late 1800's was once crowned as Miss Utah.
Bertrude graduated from the UAC (Now Utah State U.) in 1931 with a Bachelors degree in Home Economics. She Married Alton Joseph (Pete) Evans on June 24, 1931 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. They established a home on 5th West in Logan where she lived her entire married life. Pete and Berts first child, Joan was born in 1932, followed by twin boys who passed away shortly after birth.
Bertrude had many friends, and many interests and hobbies in life. She and Pete belonged to many social groups, and Bert was also active in many literary and card clubs. She was an excellent seamstress, and sewed beautiful wedding dresses for many of the brides of the day. In early married life, she served as a judge for sewing and cooking at county fairs.
After Joan started school, Bert joined the work force. She was a clerk at the old

C.C. Andersons, Sears, and over 30 years was saleslady at Cardon Jewelry. She
held many positions in the Church, and when in her 80's served as a worker in the Logan Temple.
One of her true joys was traveling. She and Pete enjoyed trips together to Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and especially California many times where their children and grandchildren were living.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Sealy, son-in-law Ramon, Santa Clarita, California, Three grandchildren, Steven Sealy (Yvonne) Lake Forest, California, Kathryn Mattson (Gary) Simi Valley, California, Melinda Olorenshaw (Lex) Half Moon Bay, California. Eleven Great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren, (all fifth generation) who live in Utah, California, and Washington State.Also many nephews and nieces. Her husband, Parents, and three younger sisters preceded her in death.
We are so grateful to Dan Heiner, Shane Hunsaker, and the entire staff at the Logan Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the excellent loving care she received during the past five years of her life. She became very close to many there, and was frequently honored for being their oldest resident.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, January 16, 2010 at noon in the Allen-Hall Mortuary on Center Street in Logan. A visitation will be held prior to services from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made to the USU Alumni Association,
