BESSIE MARTHA GLAUSER ALVORD (DA VIS)
LOGAN, UTAH: Bessie Glauser Alvord Davis , 94, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at her home in Logan. She was born August 20, 1913 in Logan, Utah at the home of her parents, Frederick Glauser and Martha Von Niederhausern Glauser. She was the second child and the first daughter of eight children. She returned to her Heavenly Father on June 26, 2008 in Logan, Utah. She married her sweetheart, Paul Allen Alvord on August 2, 1938 and they were later sealed in the Logan Temple on August 8, 1946. Following the death of Allen in 1966, Bessie remained a widow for 19 years working and continuing to raise her four children. On August 20, 1985 she married Versal Davis who passed away four years later.
With the exception of a few short years in Ogden during World War II and later in Fresno, California, Bessie was a lifelong resident of Logan where she lived, worked and spent her life in the service of God, family and all those she came in contact with. She worked in many different jobs throughout her lifetime and in later years at Logan Optical and the Cache County Auditor's Office. Idleness was never a part of Bessie's life. She was a hard worker who needed to be busy all the time. If not cooking, sewing, crocheting, learning and being of service to others she was not happy. She was a self-taught person in many ways. She was constantly learning to do new things and taught herself to play the harmonica well enough to play in the "Oldies But Goodies Band" which she continued to be a part of until she was over 90 years of age.
Bessie was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Allen Alvord and Versal Davis; one daughter, Kathryn Marie; her parents, Fred and Martha Glauser; siblings, Ted, Mel and Leona. She is survived by her siblings; Carma Watts of Logan, Ruth Liljenquist of Tustin California, Wesley Glauser of St. George and Kenneth Glauser (Sally) of South Ogden; her children Karen Nielsen (Merrill) and Rebecca Affleck (Lynn) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Sid Alvord (Gloria) of Logan and JoAnne Howard (Mark) of Tonopah, Nevada; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren.
