Betsy Jean Murray Swenson, 89, of River Heights, Utah passed away in Logan Regional Hospital on December 30, 2024 with her loving husband and two sons at her side. Betsy was born February 21, 1935 in Wellsville, Utah to her mother, Betsy Parker Parkinson Murray and father, Merlin Riggs Murray.
Betsy grew up understanding the value of hard work on a small sugar beet farm in Wellsville, often working next to her sister, Renee Murray Andersen. As a teenager Betsy met her sweetheart and future spouse, William Allan Swenson after being introduced by a mutual friend at the Logana swimming pool. Betsy would eventually become President of Sparta Pep at South Cache High School and graduate in May of 1953.
Betsy and Bill (William) would be sealed for time and all eternity on April 30, 1954, in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Betsy was known as a loving mother, skilled homemaker, and a wonderful cook. She faithfully supported her husband throughout his Air Force career which took them across the United States, relocating to Arizona, Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, and Montana. Betsy was never known to complain. Despite separate bouts with both colon and thyroid cancer, as well as constantly battling chronic bronchitis in the latter years of her life, she was always a warm and gracious host to visitors and was more focused on taking care of her family and friends than she was herself.
Betsy is survived by her husband William, her sons Larry Allan Swenson (Karren) and William Scott Swenson (Michelle), her daughter Shari Swenson Cooper (Rex), and her brother Paul Parker Parkinson Murray, as well as 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in Betsy’s honor on Saturday, January 11 at Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 E. Center Street, Logan, UT) with a viewing period from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and funeral services to be held at noon. Interment will be in the Providence Cemetery.
