Betty Barr

February 26, 1923 — April 21, 2012

Our beloved mother, Betty (Elizabeth Maxine) Barr, 89, passed away Saturday, April 21 2012, in Logan, Utah, surrounded by her six children.

Betty was born in Berlin, Wisconsin on February 26, 1923, to Neola and
Florian Ceman. Betty graduated from Berlin High School in 1940 and attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Madison, Wisconsin. While working in the hospital she met her beloved husband, James (Jim) Gregory Barr. They were married in 1943 while Jim was in the service. He was stationed in the Philippines for 2 ½ years during WWII. The family still cherishes the love letters they wrote during the war. They joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1953 and were sealed in the LA Temple in 1957. Jim passed away in 1974.

In 1981, Betty moved to Logan Utah to be closer to her children. She led an active life tending children for 23 years and opening her home to temple workers. She was a member of the River Heights 2nd Ward. She held many church callings and sang in the choir for 27 years. Over 200 temple workers have enjoyed the hospitality of her “Barrhaven” home. She loved service and made almost 4,000 children’s books for humanitarian efforts around the world.

Betty loved her family and was beloved by all. She loved her home and loved to read, sing, play the violin, travel, play card games, and she even went sledding in her 70’s with her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her children, Lee Friske of Logan, Sue (Brian) Foster of Chubbuck ID, James G. Barr II of Logan, Jeff (Cindy) Barr of Tremonton, Bonnie (Jeff) Miller of Bountiful, and Karen Jensen of Logan, 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and her sister, Marilyn (Vic) Hansen of Pine River, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Carl and Robert Ceman, and her beloved husband, Jim.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28th at 11:00 AM at the Providence LDS Ward chapel at 464 North 300 East. A viewing will be 7-8:30 pm on Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28th 10-10:40 am, both at the church. Condolences and thoughts may be sent to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net .

She lived well, laughed often, and loved with all her heart. She will be missed by all who knew her.
