Betty Bartlett

October 8, 1928 — September 23, 2014

Elizabeth "Betty" Maughan Bartlett Buttars, 85, of Mendon passed away on September 23, 2014, at Williamsburg Assisted Living.
She was born October 8, 1928, in Wellsville to Ariel and Gladys Leishman Maughan. She grew up in Wellsville with five brothers. She graduated from South Cache High School and then married Ross Bartlett on March 3, 1947, in the Logan LDS Temple. Ross passed away on January 12, 1997. Four years later she married Verl Buttars, who was a companion and friend. Verl passed away in 2006.
Betty and Ross started singing together in high school. They were known around the valley for their singing talent and sang at many funerals, weddings and programs. She sang in duets and trios and in the Con Moto Chorus and was the leader and singer in many ward choirs. Betty and Ross, along with the Mendon Gang went to many season Utah Aggies basketball games. After Ross died, she became an avid Utah Jazz home fan and hardly ever missed watching games on TV.
Through the years she helped in the Mendon School PTA, she worked in the ward Primary and Young Womens; she was a hostess at the Logan Tabernacle for two summers. Betty served an LDS mission in the Logan Beehive Clothing and was very active in the Church and enjoyed her church callings. Betty and Ross enjoyed camping and touring, bowling and snowmobiling. She enjoyed doing yard work and kept an immaculate house. She enjoyed cleaning, decorating, organizing, yet cared for family and friends at all times.
Betty worked for most of her life. She worked at the Morning Milk Factory in Wellsville. She worked as a telephone operator for Moutain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. She then worked as a seamstress for Mode O Day for 16 years sewing in zippers and buttons on clothing. She completed an Office Secretary program through Bridgerland Vocational School and then went to work as a secretary for Colburn Travel for eight years.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Tawna Fonnesbeck (Barry), Mendon and Debora Speth (Ray), Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by two brothers, Conway Maughan, Logan and Richard L Maughan (Ruth), Wellsville. She has seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross, her second husband Verl, her father, mother and three brothers, Ariel, Grant and Glen Maughan.
