Our beloved sister, aunt and friend passed away at her home on July 13, 2014. Betty was born February 27, 1929 in Logan, Utah at her grandmother McCulluch's home to
Lars and Gladys Pearson. She grew up with three brothers and five sisters in Cornish, Utah. She went to school in Cornish, Lewiston and North Cache High in Richmond, Utah.
She married Ervin Merrill and they made their home in Trenton, Utah where they made many friends. Together they owned and worked a farm and owned and operated
Merrill's Market. They loved to go camping and fishing. They traveled around the country and abroad.
Betty loved to sew and make quilts for those she treasured. Later in life she did a lot of crocheting. She made many blankets and hats which the Church sent to various places around the world.
She was a longtime and faithful member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in Trenton, Utah.
She is survived by two brothers, Clair Pearson of Salt Lake City, Reed (Sandra) Pearson of Murray, two sisters, Ruby Riggs of Wellsville and Lorene Pitkin of Logan.
She is also, survived by a sister-in-law Harriet Ezola of Homedale, Idaho and many nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews as well as great greats.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Ervin, by her brother Dean, by two sisters Leone and Joan, by sister-in-law Mary Pearson and two brothers-
in-law William (Bill) Riggs and Lyle Pitkin.
Her home was always open to everyone. Most of all she loved her family, laughing with them, family parties and dinners, and just being together.
Graveside services will be held Saturday July 19, 2014 at 11 :00 a.m. at the Trenton Cemetery under the direction of Allen Mortuaries.
We as a family would like to thank Lorin and Jimmie Leishman for their watchful eye on Betty and for taking her dinner every Sunday. Also special thanks to Beth Riggs for getting her groceries over the last few years.
