OGDEN, UTAH: Betty Lou Meacham, 86, died January 29, 2011 in South Ogden, Utah. She was born February 8, 1924 in Logan, Utah a daughter of Francis LeRoy and Dolores Louise Otte Meacham.
She was married and divorced from Carter Ames with no children from that union. She gave birth to Carla Elaine Stickley who was raised by her mother’s sister Diana and her husband Charles McCulley in Milford, Utah. She married Joseph Martin Loundes and gave birth to Donald Eugene and JoNell. He left her, took their children and she and our family never saw them again.
Betty was know for being an excellent swimmer, a good student and artist. She was prevented from graduating from high school by the foster family she was given to at age six. They kept her home to do their housework and tend their children. She suffered other unmentionable atrocities in that situation.
Betty suffered from adult onset paranoid schizophrenia. She was considered high functioning and tried to live on her how but did not have the adequate support she needed. Consequently she lived in a group home in Salt Lake City and then moved to a nursing home in South Ogden run by Eva Barney who took her under her wing and gave her special attention. Vange Boden, Eva’s granddaughter, has continued giving Betty that special care along with Reece Nelson, both administrators for the home. Betty has spent over half of her adult life there and experienced many caring and loving people.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 1:00 pm in the Logan City Cemetery (Southside) Her gravesite will be dedicated by Dyke LaFevre. Arrangements are by Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan.
It's amazing how Betty maintain a cheerful and happy side to her with all
of the suffering she had to endure.
