BILLIE STOKER OBITUARY
Armenia (Billie) Willey Stoker, 102, passed away peacefully on the night of October 24th. Her beloved husband, Golden, her mother and father and 6 siblings who preceded her in death greeted her on the other side. Billie was born on December 20, 1909 in Byron, Wyoming to Roy and Clarissa Ann Robison Willey.
Billie grew up on a farm and learned the value of hard work at a young age. As she was the oldest daughter, she learned to cook, do household chores, take care of four younger siblings and her mother when she was ill. She learned to play the piano and to sew her own clothes by herself.
She graduated from Byron High School and was persistent in convincing her father as to the importance of a college education for a girl. She attended the University of Wyoming for two years and then transferred to Utah State University.
She was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She received her bachelor’s degree in home economics. After teaching for 3 1/2 years she married Golden Lyman Stoker on Dec. 21, 1934, in the Salt Lake Temple.
She learned that sacrificing brings forth blessings. Her greatest blessing and most significant life’s work were supporting her husband and providing a nurturing and safe home for her children.
She loved the Lord and held many positions in her ward. Her favorite was playing the piano in the Logan 18th Ward.
She will be remembered for her “spunky” personality. She was always determined and could be seen“motoring” with her walker down the halls of the Legacy House Assisted Living regularly. She lived to just short of her 103rd birthday and never took a single medication. Although medical conditions deprived her of most of her vision and ability to hear, she never complained about the isolation this created. She was patient, thoughtful, caring and loving to her last breath.
She was proud of her children and their children and grand children. She had one son, Dr. Noel Stoker (Carol) (Fresno, California) and twin daughters; Jean (Dr. Brian) Thornley (Logan) and Joan (Dr. Michael) Madsen (Holladay, Utah). She has 15 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Logan 5th Ward Chapel, 502 East 300 North in Logan. A viewing will be held on Friday evening, November 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan and prior to the services on Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
