Blaine Willmore

February 5, 1923 — August 1, 2009

HYRUM, UTAH - Our husband, dad and grandpa, Blaine Hendricks Willmore went home on Saturday, August 1, 2009 after a life on this earth that was truly well served, well loved, well cherished and well lived. His body spent the last year suffering the affects of cancer as it prepared to release his spirit to join his loved ones who have passed before him.

Blaine was born on Feb. 5, 1923 to Thomas Howard and Rebecca Pearl HIllyard Willmore in Logan, Utah. He was the youngest of 5 children and grew up during the depression but had fond memories of fishing and hunting with his brothers and living next to Logan High School where his father worked full time as the schools’ custodian.

Blaine enlisted in the United States Navy and served our country during World War II aboard the air craft carriers, Lexington and York Town .

Blaine married Ethel Mae Hugie in 1942 (later divorced) and together they had two children Steve and Marilyn whom Blaine loved to take fishing, camping and skiing.

After returning from war in the South Pacific Blaine returned to Logan where he raised his young family and worked for Sears. Blaine retired from Sears after 29 years and then worked for Edwards Furniture for another 17 years.

Blaine loved music and enjoyed many years as a member of the Logan Town Singers and Emperial Glee Club.

On Oct. 24, 1963 Blaine married Maureen Lauritzen Willmore They lived in Hyrum where they raised their three children Nancy, Lisa and Mike.

Blaine served his community as a Lion’s Club member and the family has wonderful memories of the Hyrum Easter Egg hunts and 4th of July Parades hosted by the Lions. He was a faithful servant in his church callings as member of the Bishopric, Stake auditor and Young Adult leader. Blaine and Maureen were called to be full time Logan LDS Temple workers in 2002 until 2006. Blaine loved working in the temple and he and Maureen became very good friends with the other people with whom they served.

Blaine is remembered by his family and friends as a man who was a hard worker, devoted husband, father and grandfather. He thoroughly enjoyed golfing with his brothers, friends, wife and children. He loved working in his garden each summer and bottling and freezing his harvest. Blaine and Maureen are famous for their delicious raspberry jam that they would so generously share with family and friends.

Blaine is preceded in death by his father and mother and step mother Ruth Fordham Willmore; 4 brothers and one sister: Robert Clyde; David Ross; Dennis Williams; Joseph Ivan and Helen. Two grandsons: Eric Christian Willmore and Richard Judd Vance.
