Blaine Alma Olsen

Providence, Utah: Blaine Alma Olsen, 86, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010 with his family by his side.
Blaine was born on December 29, 1923 in Young Ward, Utah to Alma Dewey and Leah Nelsen Olsen. He attended school in Young Ward and Wellsville and graduated from South Cache in 1942, where he was active in 4H and he enjoyed playing softball.
He served two years in the Navy during WWII, from August 1944 to May 1946. On January 15, 1948 (Blaine’s parents wedding anniversary), he married Marie Fuhriman in the Logan Temple. Their first child, Maxine, was born on November 1, 1948, on the birthday of her aunt, Dewey and Leah’s first child, Norma. Blaine was blessed with eight children, five boys and three girls.
Blaine was a hard worker all of his life. He retired from Utah State University’s Animal Husbandry Department after 25 years of service. Blaine loved fishing and golfing with his sons, brother, grandsons and friends. He always had a beautiful garden and enjoyed sharing it with family, friends and neighbors. Blaine was a great man and was loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
He was on the Providence City Council and served in the Young Ward Bishopric. He also was the first Bishop to serve in the Providence 3rd Ward. Blaine was an officiator in the Logan Temple and also served at the Recommend Desk. Blaine and Marie served three missions together: Jamaica, Fiji and the John Johnson Home in Hiram, Ohio. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel which was shown through his lifetime of service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to his family and friends.
Blaine is survived by his wife, Marie; seven children, Norman Blaine (Linda) Olsen, Jay Glen (Tammie) Olsen, Brian Fuhriman (Michelle) Olsen, Ronald Dewey (Gaylene) Olsen, Elvalee (Richard) Eliason, Sheldon Lloyd (Krista) Olsen and Leah Louise (Chuck) Lawin; a son-in-law, Jack Andersen; 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Melba (Bud) Oakes, LaDean (Marlo) Knowles; a brother, Wendell (Lorraine) Olsen; and brothers-in-law, Bill Hansen and Edwin Jardine.
Blaine was preceded in death by his daughter, Maxine Andersen; grandson, Dax Olsen; and sisters, Norma Hansen and Marvel Jardine.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the Providence Church, 309 South Main Street in Providence. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, and prior to services at the church on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
