Boyd G. Cooper

April 18, 1938 — April 19, 2013

WELLSVILLE — Boyd Gunnell Cooper, 74, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend returned to his Heavenly Father surrounded by his loving family, April 19, 2013.
Boyd was born in Logan, Utah, April 18, 1938, the third child of Alton Archibald and Tressa Gunnell Cooper. He loved growing up at the foot of the beautiful Wellsville Mountains and spent his entire life in the city of Wellsville.
Boyd graduated from South Cache High School then served a mission to Southern Australia where he influenced many with his love of the gospel. He had a strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and magnified every calling to the best of his ability. Boyd was blessed to serve as bishop, high councilman, high priest group leader, elders’ quorum president, and in many other positions. Boyd was a faithful and devoted home teacher, and he had a special place in his heart for the elderly members of his ward whom he visited often. He honorably served his country in the U.S. and Europe for the United States Army.
Boyd was married to his eternal companion, Carolyn Murray, in the Logan Temple, July 30, 1965. They are the proud parents of two children, Melanie Allison and Brandon Boyd, five grandchildren (whom he dearly loved and enjoyed teasing), and one great grandchild.
At a young age, Boyd developed a strong work ethic that he exhibited his entire life, working on the farm, milking cows and hauling hay. His full-time career for 41 years was working for the United States Government on the space shuttle boosters. As a young boy, he also loved taking apart and putting together anything he could get his hands on. This talent led to his non-stop hobby of fixing and rebuilding cars. Boyd showed his love for his hometown through his service to the community where he served on the city council and volunteered in many civic activities.
Boyd was a prankster at heart and loved to tease his family and friends. Everyone admits life would not be nearly as fun without his tricks.
Boyd loved the great outdoors and traveled all over the United States and Canada. One of his goals was to travel on every road in Alaska, and he accomplished this goal over a fifteen-year period.
Boyd is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; daughter Melanie (Darrin) Hawes of Wellsville; son, Brandon Boyd Cooper of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; his five grandchildren-Ashley, Cassidi, Taylor, Kennedy, and Raider Hawes, and one great grandson, Boston; five siblings-Sharilyn (Bill) Barrett, Nina Lee Darley, Lyle Cooper, Vicki (James) Olson, and Jeff (Leesa) Cooper; and his extended family, mother-in-law, Allison Murray; sister-in-Iaws and brother-in-Iaws-Madelene (Dennis) McBride, Kris (Allen) Scott, Rosie (Sid) Nyman, and Curtis (Michelle) Murray. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Tressa Cooper, and his father-in-law, Dean Murray.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, April 25th at the Wellsville 5th Ward Chapel, 660 South 100 West in Wellsville. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St. in Logan and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Wellsville City Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net .
Carolyn and family would like to express their sincere appreciation, gratitude, and love to Dr. David R. Goff and the other doctors, nurses, and staff at the ICU Unit at McKay Dee Hospital for their loving and compassioante care of Boyd.
