Our loving brother, father, papa, and friend joined his mother and father on the other side on Aug 3, 2022. His memory will now be felt through every Journey song that comes on the radio.
Brett was born on July 27, 1966 to Dennis R. Doling and Charlene Younger. He made his entrance into this world before expected and had to fight to stay. He must have known there were so many of us that would need him in our lives.
He grew up in Salt Lake, Layton, and Current Creek. He attended Judge Memorial High School and worked at Denny’s as a cook with his mother. He was an artful drummer and could play anything. His idols were Randy Rhoads and Neil Peart. He was in numerous bands, notably one called Lyvwire in Salt Lake. He moved to Reno for a short time to pursue his love of music and recorded an album with a band called Roxx. He later became a master carpet & flooring installer, working for RC Willey for over 20 years as well as other various outfits. He was a hard worker and had a great work ethic.
He married Jane Brady and became an instant father. He loved being a dad and was an instrumental part in their lives. He later divorced and found his high school sweetheart again, Brenda Burt. They were married and finished raising yet another instant family. He found so much joy in raising these kids. Probably because he was a kid himself. Always playing with them, being silly, supporting them in all aspects of being a kid. His real passion came when he became a papa. He changed diapers, woke up for midnight feedings, bathed and rocked them all. His grandbabies got to experience his amazing love and passion.
If you knew Brett, you knew his love for music within 5 minutes of meeting him. You had better brush up on your music trivia if you wanted to stay in the conversation. He bought every album as soon as it was released. He could name every band, artist and song. If you ever forgot an important date, you just had to ask him. He would throw in the time of the event just to show off. He loved his teams, Jazz, Vikings & Yankees. He could name any player and tell you all about them. His sense of humor infected everyone who met him. He enjoyed playing golf with lots of buddies through the years. He loved any animal and wanted to keep them all for pets. He was a kind, gentle soul who would help anyone in need.
He will be sorely missed, but we are grateful for the memories and love that he has left us with.
He is survived by his sisters, Stefanie (Tiffany) Doling, Brook (Joshua) Wiberg, his kids and grandbabies, as well as many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his father and mother.
A viewing will be held Friday August 12, 2022 from 9:30am – 11:00am at Allen Mortuary of North Logan, 420 E 1800 N., North Logan, Utah. A graveside service will be held at Hyde Park Cemetery (near the mortuary) where he will be laid to rest by his family.
