Brett Riley Olson

Brett Riley Olson, 26, died Sunday, September 20, 2009, at McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden, Utah, from a seizure related head injury. His family was by his side as he peacefully passed away.
He was born in Logan, Utah, on June 11, 1983, to Del Roy and Rebecca Maughan Olson. He received education during his preschool years at USU and later in the Cache and Logan School Districts. At the time of his death, he was working at Cache Employment Training Center.
Brett lived with his parents in Wellsville until age 14, at which time medical problems necessitated him moving into residential living in Logan to receive 24-hour care. Those who worked with him became his second family.
Throughout the years of intellectual and physical difficulties, Brett touched the lives of so many people. You were immediately smitten by the twinkle in his eye, his heartwarming smile, and his infectious laugh. He enjoyed teasing and always made sure you could pass his test. All who worked with Brett knew that there was never a dull moment and most experienced the challenge of keeping up with him on walks when he decided to skip instead.
Brett enjoyed music, with primary songs being some of his favorites. He was so happy while outdoors watching the leaves quake in the trees and viewing the Wellsville Mountains. He loved rides with his staff but especially enjoyed riding with his dad in the old farm truck with his Mt. Dew.
Brett is survived by his parents of Wellsville; his sister, Shirlonna of Ogden; his brothers, Curtis (Debbie) of Taylorsville, Robert (Cindy) of Wellsville, Jed (Mindy) Young Ward, and his twin brother, Lane, of Wellsville. He is also survived by his nieces, Whitney, Hayley, Lindsey, Kaitlyn, and Karley Olson and his nephews, Tanner, Tyler, and Croydon Olson; his Grandmother, Ella Garrett Maughan of Wellsville, and Grandfather, Douglas Wayne Olson of Providence, and, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Arnold Poppleton Maughan and his Grandmother Renee Leishman Olson.
Brett was an angel among us. He taught us tolerance, patience, acceptance of others, and unconditional love. We are blessed to have had him in our lives.
Our family would like to thank all the staff who worked with Brett throughout his life. They provided Brett with and environment were he felt safe and happy. We would also like to thank all of his teachers who taught him the skills needed to have a better quality of life.
Our family would like to express our gratitude to the many medical professionals who have worked with Brett throughout his life. We would especially like to thank the doctors and nurses at Logan Regional and McKay-Dee Hospital for their sensitivity and kindness at this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 24, 2009 in the Wellsville Stake Center. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, and prior to services at the Stake Center from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
