Bruce Leroy Jorgensen

March 15, 1950 — July 6, 2016

Bruce LeRoy Jorgensen lived 66 years and passed away peacefully at his North Logan home on July 6, 2016 surrounded by his beloved family. The ravages of cancer eventually weakened his mortal body, but his radiant spirit shone brightly as he left this earth.

Bruce was born on March 15, 1950 in Logan Utah, the second of five children and only son to LeRoy and Merle Mecham Jorgensen. Bruce married his eternal companion, Risa Tew, on December 13, 1974 in the Logan LDS Temple. They are blessed with five children: Jamie (Orlando Tsosie), Jen (Aaron Madsen), Jason (Wendi Potter), John, and Jeff.

Bruce grew up in Hyrum, Utah enjoying an idyllic childhood. His summers were filled with work on his father’s dry farm. Bruce learned to love the earth, how to work hard, and how to fix anything with almost nothing. Cutting grain in the heat of an open tractor convinced him that someday he would have an air conditioned office on Center Street.

Bruce was a dedicated and gifted student with a bright mind. He was an Eagle Scout and helped his sons to earn this recognition. Bruce graduated from Sky View High School where he was active in drama and a three sport letterman. A great leader among his peers, Bruce served as Sky View Class President and Student body Vice President, as well as LDSSA President at USU. Bruce was a decorated graduate from Utah State University in 1974 with a Pre-Law degree. He graduated with highest honors from J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU with a Juris Doctor Degree in 1977.

Following graduation, Bruce joined the Logan Law Firm of Olson and Hoggan, where he realized his childhood dream of practicing law in an air conditioned office. He became a partner in 1982, specializing in Municipal Law. Bruce had a brilliant mind for the law and became recognized throughout the state for his legal excellence.

Bruce cherished his church membership. He had a deep love for and devotion to his Savior. He faithfully served an LDS Mission in Argentina from 1969 to 1971. He loved the scriptures and was an outstanding gospel teacher. He touched countless lives as a Bishop and in many leadership positions.

Bruce was a true-blooded Aggie and loved Utah State University. He served as the USU Alumni President and as a member of the USU Board of Trustees.

Bruce’s family was his highest priority. His most cherished role and greatest legacy was that of loving husband and father. Bruce’s life was one filled with service and devotion to his family and others.

Bruce is survived by his beloved wife Risa, his children and their spouses, and eight precious grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters: Carol (Richard Jensen), Mary (Tom Wilding), Joyce Jensen, and Barbara (Michael Clawson). Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.
