SMITHFIELD, UTAH - Bruce Charles Jasper, 44, of Smithfield, passed away at his home on January 15, 2010.
He was born June 30, 1965 in Logan, Utah, the third of four children born to John and Ione Jasper of Smithfield. Bruce attended schools in Smithfield and Richmond, and graduated from Sky View High School and Smithfield LDS Seminary in 1983. He earned a B.S. degree in Sociology at Utah State University and an M.S. degree in Gerintology from Florida International University in Miami. He was an Occupational Therapist on the Wasatch Front and in Minnesota, specializing in hand therapy. He loved his profession, and with his lighthearted and caring personality was endeared to those he served. He was a generous, appreciative individual, sensitive to and quick to respond to the needs of others.
Bruce served an LDS Church mission in the Seattle Washington Mission from 1984-86. He loved scripture study, discussing gospel principles, and was sustained through the trials of his life by his testimony of Jesus Christ. His personal journals are many, and he was fascinated with family history research. He served in various callings in the Church.
Bruce's talents were many, but he excelled in sports. As a competitive runner he often qualified for the Boston Marathon. He loved water and snow skiing with friends, whom he considered family. He played competitive basketball, and as a swimmer was a certified life guard. He lived for hiking, camping out, and so appreciated the beauties of nature. He often took his studies to the quiet nearby canyons, and memorized while jogging on the beaches of Miami. He treasured time spent with family in Utah, Idaho, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He was an Eagle Scout.
Bruce married Lisa Dorothy Bosworth in the Ogden Utah Temple on June 5, 1990. They were later divorced but remained close friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Rebekah and Sarah Triolo of Nampa, Idaho, his mother of Smithfield, brothers, David (Jennifer) of Ogden, Steven (Wendy) of Logan, a sister, Sharon (Ernie) Herbert of Syracuse, much loved nieces and nephews, and many close family members in Utah, Idaho, and the upper Midwest.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Jasper, a nephew, Derek Jasper, grandparents, and other close family members.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 21 at the Smithfield 4th Ward, 79 East 200 South. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at the church.
