NEWTON--Burke Lee Benson, 65, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on December 23, 2010.
Burke was born November 20, 1945 in Logan, Utah to Vernace & Bessie Benson. He married Jan Butler on August 2, 1965 in Preston, ID.
He graduated from North Cache High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged and returned home to Newton with his bride.
Burke worked for the Railroad as a carpenter before the Army. After the Army, he had many jobs driving trucks over the years, including working with his brother hauling milk, Millers Express driving long-haul, and then he began driving locally first for Staker-Parsons and then for The Edge Excavation.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jan Benson of Newton, his children Marty (Jami) of Smithfield, Trisha (Bill) Millard of Logan, and Justin (Becky) of Hyrum; 10 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Vernace & Bessie Benson & his three brothers, Dale, Morse & Val Jay.
There will be a viewing Sunday, December 26 from 6:00 – 8:00 at Allen Hall Mortuary, 44 E Center, Logan. Funeral services will be held at 12:00, Monday, December 27, with a viewing before at 10:30 at the Newton 1st Ward Chapel, 90 S 100 W. Interment will be in the Newton City Cemetery.
