Burton "Lee" Harris
North Logan, Utah: Lee Harris passed away on October 9, 2016 at home after a valiant fight against Sarcoidosis and COPD (Lung Disease).
Lee was born in FT. Lewis, Washington to Burton H and Vivian Nichols Harris on August 1, 1955. Upon his father's completion of his military service Lee's family moved to Logan where he received his education. He attended Utah State University graduating with a degree in Secondary Education in 1981, and then pursued his Masters degree in Education, graduating in 1984. He met the love of his life Pamela (Batt) at the local drive inn movie, and thus began their forever tradition to go to the movies every Friday night. They married each other in the Logan Temple on September 23, 1976. Just two weeks after Lee returned from the Ohio Columbus Mission.
Lee was the proud father of 3 children, Andrew (Aimee) Harris, Shane (Michelle) Harris, Jami (Zachary) Norton. He had 14 Grandchildren that were the absolute joy of his life, and they will surely miss their "Poppa" and all his songs and games he would play with them, Lee was
always a kid at heart, and if there ever was a real "Peter Pan" it was him. He is also survived by his two bothers and trhee sisters, David (Cindy) Harris; Gary (Val) Harris; Delsa (Steve) Thorne; Karen (Richard) Orgill and Alice (Brent) Redd. He was preceded in death by his Mother (Vivian) Harris, Father (Burton Harris) and Daughter in law (MaeLynn Harris).
Lee loved to serve others, and he was often found out in the community joining with other organized groups such as the Lion's Club, numerous PTA School- Councils, and in 1999 He was Honored to be the recipient of the J.C. Penny Golden Rule Award which allowed him to
make a generous donation to the reading program at his school. Reading was his passion in life, his favorite book was "The Little Prince" and he lived his life in such a manner that anyone who has ever read and loved that book, would have been able to say "I knew Lee Well".
Lee also loved his country, proudly serving in the United States Army Reserve for 14 years until he was forced to retire at the rank of E-6 due to medical reasons. He was highly decorated with two Army Commendations and three Army Achievement Medals for his excellence in guiding his platoon while in the Field Artillery and in the Combat Engineers. Lee always became tearful at the sight of our nations flag and loved to sing our national anthem. He was a member of the
American Legion Post 58 in Smithfield Utah, and enjoyed his associations there.
