Byrnece Maughan

May 2, 1925 — October 7, 2015

Cleta Byrnece Maughan, 90, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peaceably on Tuesday, October 7, 2015.
Byrnece loved life and its challenges from the minute she was born on May 2, 1925, Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the first child of three of Cleta Hancey and Hans C. Hansen. She was raised in Logan, Utah. She graduated from Logan High School and while out dragging Main with her girlfriends met the love of her life, Ralph B. Maughan.
Ralph left to serve in World War II but came home on a furlow and they were married. While waiting for the war to be over, Byrnece worked as a lab technician at the Budge Clinic.
Ralph and Byrnece were a perfect team. He would coach at USU and she would feed and cheer the athletes. Many lonely young men felt she was their substitute mother away from home. They spent countless hours working in their backyard to make it the showcase it is today. She loved her family and delighted in being with them.
Byrnece received many honors, some of which were, she was the Faculty League President at USU, sat on the scholarship committee and opened the first career center in Utah at Mount Logan Middle school. Many schools and universities came to copy her program. She was honored by Utah State Education. For 13 years Ralph and Byrnece were involved in the Providence Stake Foreign Name Extraction where they extracted over 7,000 names from Italian and Spanish records.
Byrnece held many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was particularly proud she spoke at two stake conferences with two general authorities, Elder Paramore and Elder Bruche.
She is survived by her two children Ralph Bernell Jr. (Jackie) of Pocatello, Idaho and Suzanne (Randy) Wilson of Logan and sister-in-law Marie White. She has 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph, her mother and father and sisters, Peggy and Marilyn.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, October 15 at the Providence Stake Center, 800 S. 600 E, River Heights. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday evening at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center, Logan, or at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to services on Thursday. Interment will be at the Logan Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.allenmortuaries.net .
