Our beloved husband, father and father in law, Dr. Carl-G. Hammar passed away after a short struggle with cancer August 18, 2012, with his wife and son at his side. He was born Feb. 29, 1936, in Uppsala, Sweden to George and Vivi Hammar. He received his degrees from the University of Stockholm: M.S. in chemistry and physics in 1964, Ph.D in analytical chemistry in 1969, and Fil.Dr. in the development of new techniques in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in 1971. He was an instructor at the Department of Toxicology at the Karolinska Institute, 1964-1970
Dr. Hammar was assistant professor in pharmacy at the University of Uppsala from 1971 to 1977 and head of the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory, R&D at AB Kabi Pharmaceutical Company in Stockholm, 1970-1977. Dr. Hammar was presented a medal for outstanding contribution to the field of biochemistry and medicine in Milan, Italy, in 1974.
In 1977, Dr. Hammar, his wife and two children moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he joined the Department of Pharmacology at The Ohio State University. The family moved to beautiful Cache Valley in 1995.
His many interests included photography, classical music, and tending to his beautiful rose gardens Carl was a talented self-taught woodworker who designed and created uniquely designed furniture (often with inlays).
He was preceded in death by our beautiful daughter Catharina. Carl will be deeply missed by his wife Erna of 51 yrs, son Peter and daughter in law Lesley.
He is also survived by a brother and close relatives in Sweden.
