Carl Miller Preece Sr.

April 24, 1934 — August 3, 2016

On Wednesday, August 3, 2016, our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, Carl Miller Preece Sr., 82, of Hyde Park, Utah, left this earth to join our mother, Jane Marie Edgemon, in heaven one day prior to their 65th wedding anniversary. We know dad missed mom and wanted to spend that day with his sweetheart. Carl passed away at the George E. Whalen Veterans Home in Ogden surrounded by his family.
Carl was born in Lewiston, Utah on February 24, 1934 to Raymond Francis Preece and Selma Miller. Carl was the fifth of the nine children in the Preece family and was raised working on the family farm.
In 1951, while working with his father on the railroad, Carl met the love of his life, Jane Marie Edgemon and on August 4th that same year, they were married. Carl joined the Navy and became a SeaBee working with the Construction Battalion throughout his 20 year career. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam before retiring from the Navy in 1972. Six children were born to Carl and Jane, Carl Jr., Debbie, Mike, David, Cindy, and Chris. After retiring from the Navy, they settled in Lewiston, Utah and he began working for Schreiber’s Cheese in the maintenance department. He worked through several different jobs with Schreiber’s until his retirement in April of 1996. Retirement was boring for dad so he took a job as a camp host in Logan Canyon for 4 years. He loved that job and enjoyed meeting and visiting with people from all over the world. Carl and Jane moved to Hyde Park, Utah in April of 2005.
Carl’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and for the past year his one great-great grandchild. He loved telling them stories and they never seemed to mind if they heard the same one over and over. He found great joy in teaching them things whether it was how to drive, how to build or how to shoot a gun. They were his world and he gave everything he had to his family.
Carl is survived by his six children, Carl (Mary Ann) Preece Jr., Debbie (Blaine) Scott, Mike (Sue) Preece, Dave (Dina) Preece, Cindy Preece and Chris Preece. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jane, his parents, Ray and Selma Preece, 2 brothers, Wendall and Floren, a sister, Winona, 4 sisters-in-law, Carol, Phyllis, Carrol and Gina and 2 brothers-in-law, Howard Robinson and Curtis Campbell. He is also preceded in death by 2 grandsons, Jeremy and Robbie, a grandson-in-law, Ammon, 2 granddaughters, Joey and Stacie, and a great-granddaughter, Austin.
