LOGAN, UTAH:Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away at 80 years on May 25th at Logan Regional Hospital of Leukemia. Carl was born April 4, 1925 in Staffordville, Connecticut to Charles M. Hrusa and Margaret Horton. On October 6, 1945 he married Reva Copenhaver in Vallejo, California.
Carl and Reva settled in Connecticut after the war where Carl worked as a jet engine technician for United Aircraft. He was later transferred to Florida, where he retired in 1980. Carl and Reva moved to Cache Valley in 1980 in 1982 living in Providence and then in Logan.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Reva, of 60 years (in October); two sons, Dennis Hrusa (Debbie) of Colchester, Connecticut, Larry Hrusa (Pat) of Mentor, Ohio; four grandchildren, Kimmie Arroyo (Danny) of Colton, California, Paul Hrusa (Amanda) of New York City, Tia Hrusa of Colchester, Connecticut, and Kevin Hrusa of Mentor, Ohio; one great-grandson, Broydon of Colton, California; one sister, Muriel Mahr of South Windsor, Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Fredrick Mahr and niece Pam Mahr.
Carl was a member of Harmony Lodge #21, Free and Accepted Masons of Utah, where he served for three years as Worshipful Master, and as Secretary since 1998. He was a member of Logan Chapter #8, Royal Arch Masons, and served as High Priest. He was a Knight Templar of the York Rite and a 32° Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of the Oriental Shrine and served for over ten years as the secretary/treasurer of the Northern Utah Shrine Club.
Carl loved people and sponsored over 100 children to the Shrine Hospital in Salt Lake City. He also served as Associate Guardian of Bethel #12 of the International Order of Jobes Daughters. Carl was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Logan, and American Legion Post #7.
Carl was a World War II veteran, serving in the U. S. Navy from 1941 until July, 1945 on the USS Curtis where he survived two kamikaze attacks in 1944 and 1945. He was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of Machinist First Class.
Carl enjoyed working with jet engines, his motorcycle, Florida Beaches, boating on the St Lucie River, football, lobster and crabs, videlia onions, traveling the U. S., his Masonic brothers and Shrine Club duties. He loved his family, his job a t ICON for Pinkerton Security, the many friends he made, the west, cowboy boots and hats. Also, our second sons Jim and Paulie Valcarce of Alaska, especially little Maria, our dear friend, Peggy, who helped guide us through the journey, and our precious Peppie.
Our appreciation to Dr. Russell Hirst, Dr Ben-Jacob, his staff, Logan regional Hospital the nurses, aids, etc., for all their loving care.
A memorial service will be held at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Logan on Friday June 10th at 11:00 A.M. with an American Legion Military Tribute. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Shrine Hospital, Fairfax Road and Virginia St, Salt Lake City, UT 84103, or other charity of your choice.
