Carol Nielsen Jessop, 83, of Hyrum, passed away March 31, 2019 in North Logan, Utah. She was born at home in Hyrum, Utah on Christmas Day, December 25, 1935 to George Marvin Nielsen and Melba Lucetta Sparks Nielsen. Carol was the fourth child in a family of five children where she grew up learning the value of hard work. She attended Lincoln School Elementary and South Cache High School, where she met her husband, Ross Speth Jessop. These high school sweethearts later married on September 21, 1956 in the Logan LDS Temple, together they raised three children.
Carol was a mother first; she loved her family and went to great lengths to provide for and nurture them. She was a wonderful homemaker with many wonderful talents. Before she got married, she made her own wedding dress! Over the years, she would sew many clothing items for the family….. clothes, coats, suits, leather vests, swimsuits, drapes, blankets, quilts, doll clothes, stuffed animals and much much more. There seemed to be no limit to what she could create, if she could think it up, she could do it! Carol also enjoyed a sweet bond with her two beloved sisters, MarGene and Elaine, together they would spend many hours making porcelain dolls. She kept an immaculate yard with beautiful flowers and a big garden. From the garden, she would can delicious food to last the family through the year. As the kids got older, she started working outside the home, first at Clearfield Cheese and then later at E.A. Millers for 25 years. She had a love of learning, and when E.A. Millers transitioned into computers and offered to pay for classes to learn about them, she was thrilled to sign up and go. She took several night classes at Bridgerland ATC and became extremely proficient and knowledgeable. This new love of computers not only helped her in her employment, but would become a new hobby where she would make yearly family calendars and personalized birthday cards for family, friends and loved ones. With this new knowledge, she taught many friends and family members how to use the computer. When the internet came out, she loved researching her genealogy and compiling many books and photo albums. Because of these wonderful talents, her family will be forever blessed as we look back on her tireless efforts to organize, beautify, and share these talents.
In the last four years of her life, she dealt with many health issues, including the loss of part of her leg. She embraced what life had given her and soldiered on, never feeling sorry for herself or her situation. She would tell people up front, “I only have one leg!” As her health continued to deteriorate, she went to live at Maple Springs in North Logan; here she blossomed with a community of friends, old and new. How she loved the activities and games! Bingo was a favorite, followed by Chips and Dice and Bowling! She had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh. Wherever she was, she made friends with her quick smile and helping hands.
Carol is survived by her children, Leslie (Kirk) Allred, North Ogden, UT; Curtis (deceased)(Sheila) Jessop, Nibley, UT; and Rick (Simone) Jessop, Oak Ridge, NC; 12 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and brother Farrell Dean Nielsen, North Logan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Speth Jessop; son, Curtis Ross Jessop; brother, Alvoid Nielsen; sisters, MarGene Yeates , Elaine Bullen; and parents, George and Melba Nielsen.
